I like tea, libraries, jigsaw puzzles, fridge magnets, cooking, mountains, trains, rescue dogs, history docos and southeast asian islands.

When I grow up I want to be a train driver. Or a librarian. Or maybe a character in a William Gibson novel.

Oh for goodness sake the homes mostly being built are unaffordable for all the people that need housing. The only way we can address the housing crisis is to overrule all council impediments to building and living in tiny homes. What the feds need to do is legislate against NIMBYism

@joannejacobs repurposing existing buildings, eg empty office blocks, is probably the most effective short-term move, but everything is constrained by the simple lack of available workers. Tax changes are also essential, including moving away from stamp duty that disincentivises downsizing

Requiring a grandmother to register for a “porn passport” so she can see her grandkids on Facebook. Either that or set up a VPN. The porn passport will be hacked, and the number of places needing a porn passport will grow! @vwdasher pretty obviously it would (a) be trivial to circumvent and (b) only ever apply to a small number of higher profile sites, leading to people (including kids) seeking out less mainstream, likely much dodgier sites. It must be opposed of course, but this trial may provide the opportunity to shoot this idea down for good. It would also be nice to see EFA actually do something. They've been almost nonexistent for many years

Just to be clear, Gina Rinehart is a prototypical example of the type of predatory billionaire maggot accountable to no government on earth and directly responsible for boiling your planet like soup. Folks out here are bringing up the Streisand Effect and saying "you'd have never heard of her before she cried about a painting" but the fact is you SHOULD have heard of her because her mines and the politicians she buys are both truly global in scale.
