    One of the greatest enshitification moments came years ago when Google Play transitioned to YouTube Music.

    Play always allowed you to upload your digitized music. YTM does too. But the UX for accessing your uploads became unusable and more importantly they serve you ads when listening to your own uploaded library music.

    Using the web app for ... I turned off this crop setting for images and it seems better. On a PC less so. I wish it could be set for landscape vs portrait viewing mode or something...

    Verifying your profile on Mastodon is free and easy if you have your own web site or blog or etc.

    People will tell you it doesn't mean anything but that is not true. It tells you that the owner of the site and the owner of the account on Mastodon are the same. And that is not nothing, especially for big entities whose web site you already trust.

    Some sites, like Bandcamp, add the rel=me tag automatically when you create a link.

    Also follow hashtags for topics you like by clicking it and look for follow icon on top right.

    Also boost ♻️ posts you like so your followers will see them.

    This will fill up your timeline with good stuff and help you find more accounts to follow.

    It is a virtuous cycle.

    I have an entire album worth of fully completed tracks that I don't feel I can release because they use uncleared samples.

    It makes me angry and sad because these are wholly new works that sound nothing like their sources. I think they are valid.

    If I were a big time artist on a major label I would have lawyers to clear these samples. But as a tiny little independent there is no way to even start clearance. No path at all.

    This is wrong.

    Got an email from AES the electric company in subject "Enhancements coming your way!" in which the go on to tell me there will be a 13% rate hike.

    A rate enhancement guys.

    They also, in the email, talk about inflation and improvement to their digital offerings and vegetation pruning.

    If you follow to the site there is a bunch more they want to do and at the VERY BOTTOM is talk of updating the smart grid.

    I know that smart grid updates are needed to electrify the country but when you list it last it tells me you don't really intend to do anything at all about it.

    Very bad marketing. If you had led with that and maybe told me this was to combat global climate change and prevent the smokey hellscape that I currently am living in, I might be in favor.
