WHAT option do I give to "tar" to tell it to remove all files that may exist in the directory path - such that it will remove files that are in the path that are NOT in the archive.

I backup my macports directory to a tar file prior to updating to the newest ports. SO if I need to revert, I want everything in /opt to be replaced with my tar file contents - and I want files in /opt that are not in my tar file to be removed.

Help? TIA! 🙏

@lisamelton Sorry to bother you, but I am hoping that you might be able to recommend a reliable Blu-ray drive for ripping movies. I have an old LaCie drive, but it's been really unreliable of late in terms of reading discs (it’ll try & then spit it back out half the time). Sometimes it’ll work if I reinsert the same disc, but that's pretty uncommon.

4K would be a plus, but not a dealbreaker. This is for ripping discs to my (M2) Mac with my iPad as the end goal, so 1080p is fine. Thank you!

@wassilywabbit You should definitely get a UHD (what you're calling 4K) drive. Why? The best drives for ripping are all UHD now.

And make sure it supports the LibreDrive architecture so it's compatible with MakeMKV. See:

@wassilywabbit The Asus BW-16D1HT drive needs to have its ROMs flashed to be able to correctly rip UHD discs. I did this with a Windows utility. I'm not sure it can be done on macOS.

@wassilywabbit The MakeMKV forums should have instructions on how to do this and a download link for the Windows utility to do the flashing. There may be a macOS utility now. I haven't looked. And, honestly, it's been over five years since I did this.
