once you get to interurban proper it’s good all the way to transit centre with at most less than one questionable block

(eta: on the way back it made more sense and it's actually fine, but it is a little confusing going north the first time.)

@moira@mastodon.murkworks.net avatar

well that worked!

and it was fine except for right as i got here when i had someone yell at me about my mask and another asshole in a big truck blow by everyone else who had stopped at the bike crossing off the trail to the shopping centre hammering his horn at me.

I get real sick of some of the purity-testing lefty bullshit on here and then I run into a buzzsaw of "you support GENOCIDE OF JEWS" comments elsewhere for supporting Biden's restraint of Netanyahu's government and it's like "oh yeah. It's all fucking terrible, now I remember. All the time. All of it."

I wasn't going to link to this here, but now I am, because what the commenter replied to isn't even primarily about Gaza, it's mostly about how you reward - or punish - politicians with the granting and removal of power.

Even so, just supporting Biden's restraint as an illustration was enough to get me accused of supporting genocide of Jews.

This is what Biden has to deal with, folks.

oh and just to state the obvious

DO NOT PILE ON. I MEAN IT. DO NOT. DO NOT PILE ON.

I've blocked them from further commenting and do not want that shit to ramp back up. I just want to show this particular example of the shit Biden has to deal with outside the lefty bubble.

all those "ai accelerator" chips being crammed into every fucking device under the sun (including SBCs!!!)

what do u reckon the average utilisation on those? and what % of that utilisation do u reckon is just like... adware spyware bullshit nobody actually wants?

fyi @disappearinjon - 1.2.1 has removed bike shop icons (and some added in Greater Northshore) (and also other stuff):

while variable, the new bike lane infrastructure on 73rd ave NE in Kenmore varies from acceptable to outstanding with the vast majority very good and better. a couple of places drop to paint-stripe-and-road-turtle but they aren’t long, it’s reasonable where they do, and the lanes are still wide and clearly marked.

The new sidewalk areas also seem to be good quality, but I was paying less attention.

I saw a couple of other bikers, this is being discovered quickly.

#BikeMap UPDATE RELEASE NOTICE

  • Greater Northshore Bike Connector Map 1.2.1
  • Northwest King County MEGAMAP 1.2.1

The bike part of the bike and sidewalk improvements on 73rd Ave NE in Kenmore are complete! There's still a little work to be done on the sidewalks, but it's good enough for me for now.

Also some updates to bike shop locations (deleting some in Seattle; adding some in Greater Northshore) and a word correction in the MEGAMAP box.

Direct "latest map" URLs have not changed.

having just ridden it, I gotta say

other than addressing the lack of a bridge over swamp creek, tolt pipeline right of way needs so little work to make it a good east-west bike corridor

i'm not talking bike-armour good either, i mean road bike. yeah, there's a big hill which means the western side of it will always mostly be e-bikes, but with even my old Class 1, it's fine.

the part that needs work is a big grassy slope that's very similar to a big paved slope on the other side of the hill. It needs work at the very top, and at this little roller-coaster dip halfway up. that, and pavement. That's the part I walked.

everything else you can bike now and it's basically okay.

this is low-hanging fruit.

This happened after I stopped by the kenmore farmer's market to see the little "missing middle housing" city presentation. I also talked to a member of the city council about the Greater Northshore and MEGAMAP bike maps. They're into it.

maybe get a little momentum going here, it'd be nice

moira,
@moira@mastodon.murkworks.net avatar

(the bridge over swamp creek, that'd be a big deal. I freely admit that. Also think it's worth doing, of course. Just spendy.)

moira,
@moira@mastodon.murkworks.net avatar

ALSO also

Greater Northshore 1.2.1 will be dropping TONIGHT, as soon as I can add infrastructure on NE 73rd St. that I didn't think was going in until next year. It's going in RIGHT NOW. They're almost done. The bike stuff is done, they're still working on sidewalk railings which are currently there but very temporary structures.

Remember Zoozve? The quasi-moon of Venus featured on Radiolab that was named after a typo on a map of the Solar System?

Now is your chance to name one of Earth’s quasi-moons. The IAU and Radiolab are holding a contest — they will pick the top 10 names, which then go to a popular vote.

The worst part about repairing a dryer over several days is that by the time you're finally able to put it back together, you have no idea where the SCSI cable went.
Gotta check all the DIY repair YouTube videos to see where this came from.

moira,
@moira@mastodon.murkworks.net avatar

@foone is it from the dryer or did you just leave a SCSI cable in your pockets again?

well i found a bad capacitor on the optical smoke alarm that decided to go off for no reason

(it has like... 4+ times the expected ESR and also measures more than 10% low so... not definitive but seems sus)

all the other components seem okay so kinda wondering if i found it? problem with doing more analysis is that i have no idea how this circuit works lol

moira,
@moira@mastodon.murkworks.net avatar

well i got the cover back on and a battery in, and it doesn't go off immediately anymore

guess i can test it for a week or so? maybe it's okay now? I mean, it was leaking current so that's not good

(I'm willing to work on photo-optical smoke detectors, that's fine. i don't want to mess with the ones with radioactive bits inside)

moira,
@moira@mastodon.murkworks.net avatar

oh and while i don't know much about how smoke detectors work i do know how power rectifiers work and it wasn't part of that subsystem, which kind of means it has to be in the detection/alarm path somehow. so it's not just a DC filter. tho' that could maybe do weird shit too idk
