Responding to "believe victims" with "we can't believe false accusations!" is the sexual justice equivalent of responding to "black lives matter" with "all lives matter".

We say "believe the victims" not to create a dynamic that anyone can abuse with false accusations. We say "believe the victims" because no one ever does, and that's awful. If someone asks you for your belief, listen to them in earnest, and be prepared to believe them, even if it's hard. Even if they accuse someone you trust.

nergal,

@drewdevault @JustinMac84 when do you investigate the story to as full as you are able? will you contact that guest to ask about that piece of news? will that guest be told why they have been removed from the list?

nergal,

@drewdevault @JustinMac84 first time i heard of that principle was tucker carlson. he said something like, '' i believe everything i hear, until i prove it false.''

nergal,

@drewdevault @mariusor exactly! this! i think the reason rms has been able to proclaim certain perspectives is because people refused to challenge and refute such.

sircmpwn has heard my thoughts on this a couple times. both in reference to content on rms site.

people let this man spout these things for years. to rms, these must be cemented arguments, since none sought to counter. instead, decades after, he is being cancelled because he said things in public.

personally wish persons were judged by their actions as well as words. recall when rms was reinstated at whatever position, many announced that they rather return to using microsoft products. remind me: how many paedophiles have been revealed as associates of that company? have they ever stated their status in public? how much have seattle pd and others had to seal? where are the rebuttals to rms meanderings?

I miss Frost OS (spelled, FrostOS). Sadly, DMCA knocked out FrostOS.

FrostOS allowed you to natively run BSD, Linux, Apple, and Windows apps all on a single system. As you can easily suspect, it violated so many trademarks and copyright claims.

Frost OS was the operating system that truly showed what people were capable of if people truly worked together and there was far less bureaucratic red tape.

#FrostBSD #BSD #Linux #Apple #macOS #Windows #DMCA

nergal,

@Linux_Is_Best never encountered it anywhere. was this os bootstrapped from another? any footage of it in operation?

nergal,

@Linux_Is_Best @awoodsnet shoot... this was a child of those huge system codebase leaks. that time when entire core system codebases were torrented. before magnet was a thing and edonkey was the master of p2p.

Air travel is a fucking nightmare ever since they started charging for checked bags and the overhead bins were filled the fuck up with bags meticulously engineered to occupy the precise maximum dimensions of carry on luggage.

t. sitting on a plane that's an hour late because they have to pull a bunch of carry ons out of the cabin and check them

nergal,

@drewdevault what are the other options if you would boycott air travel? sea?

nergal,

@drewdevault yes ... refraining from travel is something us jamaicans, haitians and solomon islanders do all the time... that is a subvitae option

It's very rare to find homeless women in (but they are there) but men are full sleeping in the streets and calvats.
I went to Meru main prison last month, men are in deplorable condition there and very congested, women prison is very good, clean and spacious. You know men makes all these decisions at the top. happy

nergal,

@JonathanMBR @hypolite gender only affects the approach to corruption by politicians. is a jezebel x joab kind of story. the only good politician is one allowed only 2 years in office. how long is it between contract breaks usually, in your country?

nergal,

@JonathanMBR @hypolite in mine is 2 years. contract workers do not get much benefits compared to fully employed.

My patience for discussing software with someone drops like a rock when I realize their arguments only make sense under the unstated assumption that non-free software is valid

nergal, (edited )

@drewdevault as molly de blanc during a software freedom conservancy online seminar and cohorts once told me in 2019: you do not have to use free software.

they also told me i should travel. fly to some free software conventions.

also accused me of being racist.

the main topics for that meeting were microaggressions in open source projects and how open source could improve facial recognition.

what i understood from that whole shindig: all free software does is offer choice and alternatives.

i have to validate proprietary software. people refuse to use and improve the better option. am not disregarding the efforts of all who make my employ of free software possible. decided to let them be and stick with those that choose to abide by principles of software freedom.

"'As an industry we’ve had a lot of hammers at our disposal. We’re trying to introduce more scalpels into our approach', John Redgrave, Discord’s vice president of trust and safety, told me in an interview. 'That doesn’t just benefit Discord — it benefits all platforms, if users can actually change their behavior'."

nergal,

@strypey people telling people how wrong it is they are making a profit are pretentious. direct solution is to not use or buy the product. recall: a few people threatened to drop gnu/linux and return to msft windows if rms got reinstated. this was at a time when the world was informed of lolita express and its passengers and the predilections of various msft employees.

nergal,

@strypey this is not an attack on you. it is an observation of a large problem. clearview been getting their pictures from many proprietary silos that are more about applying drm to datapoints to which they do not have rights.

then there is the gluttony for punishment: people rather suffer than adapt to another way of doing things. like a user told me the other day: ''i was scared that i would lose my files while copying when i plug my hard drive to that thing you installed called linux because it is not windows.'' she never tried to right click and choose copy on her linux mint even once. i was asked to install it indirectly by her support person because windows support is not available to that laptop.

with discord, i refused to use it from initial fascist experiences where operators would yank us to other rooms during games to express discontent with deity knows what.

Better digital #navigation stories.

I was on a bus today and it went past a shop I want to buy from things from. I looked up the shop in OSMAnd+ (installed from F-Droid) - with no net connection - and not only did the map have the correct shop, in the correct place, clicking on it showed me a link to the website.

nergal,

@strypey the applications based on osm only enhance too. organic maps, for instance: https://www.f-droid.org/en/packages/app.organicmaps/

nergal,

@strypey are there any osm applications that are online-first? osmand+ was very large and slow at one point. battery life went like the big bang theory. organic maps hits my points just right.

nergal,

@strypey 3 years ago. been using organic maps for a year.
