Any "shade tree" or hobby architects/designers want to play around with our miserable floor plan? 😂

Birds eye view
blank floorplan

@moira

The stairwell goes down to the unfinished basement, which is essentially the original house, as notated in the floorplan with the green sections. The house started out years ago as a 14x28 L, as you can see in the birdseye view. It can be moved up to a certain point.

Open to beaming all the interior load bearing walls and starting clean, blank space, minus the purple bathroom in the back, possibly roofing the carport and making it real room and closing the front porch

blanked out floorplan

paul,
@paul@oldfriends.live avatar

@moira This house was an add-on nightmare. We've owned it since 2019. It's going to be our forever home now

We finally got all the roof issues fixed that came along with add-ons. Now we are planning to tackle the inside. The back bathroom was 100% done new with accessibility in mind, including walk-in tub, lifting mechanisms, etc

We're going to have to put all new subfloor down in the original part because it's the 1950's thin tongue n groove over joists & no match for my heavy motorized chair

paul,
@paul@oldfriends.live avatar

@moira

I like that, esp the back new bedrooms.

Currently, over the kitchen, is a flat roof. This fall, our main project is getting rid of the 1950's metal flat carport and the flat roof over the kitchen, so, technically, the kitchen and the carport will not be separated by a load bearing walls & can be opened. Also, in early 2020, we did a box store remodel of the kitchen with no-destroy rip out in mind. The kitchen can move anywhere.

paul,
@paul@oldfriends.live avatar

@moira

Good thinking, but... All new central sewer line from the road into the house and 100% new plumbing throughout the house. That was a must do job we did before we did the kitchen and bathroom shortly after moving in. Water connection is pex All the old plumbing & sewer, was capped off. All of it. We also ran new wire and outlets in the kitchen and bathroom, not knowing what was there already in a 70 yr old house, with multiple owner add-ons

paul,
@paul@oldfriends.live avatar

@moira

The old sewer was clay and more likely cracked or collapsed at one point so we had a new line put in with right slope.

We knew at some point we were going to have to undertake some major remodel, just to deal with issues with the structure.

Luckily, a lot of the infrastructure stuff was done for us by my dad before he passed away, but he was focused on the future, esp the plumbing and electrical.

I'd love to be able to watch the four specials of Dodger that came after season 1.

The Train, Christmas, Bad Egg and Coronation.

I interpreted it re the British format in layout, writing and target audience and not a right-wing turn

"One might be tempted to speculate that the new, Brit-heavy, Murdoch-pedigreed leadership will turn the Post into a fiery right-wing tablet. But douse that thought with flame retardant. None of the new Lewis crew seem to tilt that way, not even Murray when he ran the news pages of the Journal, the paper that broke the Trump-wounding Stormy Daniels story in 2018."

Why am I getting email notifications from the dead bird site about how TFG is going to win the election?

paul,

@dannotdaniel @GayDeceiver

😂

I'm getting emails that want me to advertise on the fowl site. Special deals. I've never advertised, nor shown an interest in advertising.

I even ran the email headers to see if they were spoofed and maybe a scam but nope, the emails are coming from the fowl site.

Also, the only way to opt-out is to log into your Twitter account, and set email preferences, an account to which I don't have any longer and haven't for a couple years now.

Season 3 of The Outlaws just dropped episode 1. There's only 6 episodes per season.

It's a crime comedy, with 81 yr. old Christopher Walken as part of the cast.

Seven strangers from different walks of life - people who would never normally interact - are forced to work together to renovate a derelict community center as part of their probation. They resent the work and each other

When one of them gets dragged into a dangerous organized crime, they unite in ways none of them thought possible.

paul,
@paul@oldfriends.live avatar

@tiamat271

It's such a good show. It's on BBC One and I think it is included with Amazon Prime.

No diss to devs, but 10.9.* has been a disaster of a release across all platforms. Now up to 10.9.4 with more coming soon. The newest is shows disappearing, scan failures, etc.

I hope at some point a release autopsy is done to figure out what went wrong

My guess is not enough non-dev beta testers across different platforms & devs working only with the platform of their preference–things getting merged not fully tested across platforms

To their credit, Jellyfin is on many platforms

Just got redirected to Reddit - not something I usually look at (but was reading a 'news' article about a giant slug that came from there), and one of the stories is 'where's all the banana yoghurt gone'.

Where has all the banana yoghurt gone? I haven't seen any in ages!

paul,
@paul@oldfriends.live avatar

@TheBreadmonkey

I would tell you where it went but I am afraid tomorrow the lead story in the newspaper would be how I slipped on a banana peel and met my demise.

That's just how secret banana yoghurt society would do it.

Is there a way to turn my post archive from (file type JSON) into a text format where I can easily locate and copypaste single posts?

paul,
@paul@oldfriends.live avatar

@lex
A couple tools but requires python whereever you use it.

🔗 Mastodon Archive is an easy way to turn your archive into an offline viewer. I've used it.

https://github.com/kensanata/mastodon-archive?tab=readme-ov-file

🔗 There's also Mastodon Archive Viewer. I haven't used it.

It says it "A html script to take a mastodon archive and convert it into a human-readable webpage for viewing."

Am I the only one who thinks it is funny that when you go get a file from certain official Ohio departments, the URL is Dam.Assets.Ohio.Gov?😂

I can see calling Ohio HelpDesk going this way,

Ohio Helpdesk's minimum wage worker, "Thanks for calling the State of , how can I help you."

Me, "Yes, I tried to download payment schedules but got a 404 file not found error at the dam assets

Ohio Helpdesk, "Sir, I know it can be frustrating. If you can give me more info, I'll look into this"

paul,
@paul@oldfriends.live avatar

@mjf_pro

I ended up going directly to the url and it forwarded to the hosting platform, Cloudinary.

I guess it stands for Digital Asset Management at that service.

Selfhosted instance.

I am thinking of breaking and to a separate server instead of increasing my current VPS resources.

I'll have two servers. My main, which will run Mastodon, and another that will have Postgres and ElasticSearch on it.

Will I benefit by doing this or should I just move ElasticSearch to its own server? What is the minimum CPU/ram I can get for the second server & what should I get?

Or, other thoughts welcomed.

paul,
@paul@oldfriends.live avatar

@jenbanim

Mine is 4vCPUs and 6 GB RAM, 6GB swap with 120 GB SSD.

Elasticsearch RAM is ridiculous, but I use my search more than anything else now, inc Google.

It costs like $10USD a month, plus Backblaze B2 for CDN is under $1.50

Ohio parents receive $4 million dollar hospital bill after delivering quadruplets'

They all needed to be admitted to the NICU and each of her four babies ended up staying between 64 days and 147 days which totaled over $4 million, for which all of it was covered by #Ohio #Medicaid

I wonder what the actual amount the hospital got was, because the bills sent to patients' vs Medicaid payment max is greatly inflated. My guess, $250-500K.

Thank goodness Medicaid stepped in

As a Republican state, Ohio has embraced a lot of Liberal healthcare, for as much as it can being a GOP state.

As a whole, the US needs to come to a real reckoning over healthcare, but it's a business and over the last decade, the investors and private equity investors have dived deeper into it. I have a feeling cost will go up and care will go down. That's what I've experienced with my main healthcare providers, after they were taken over by an investment firm.
