Queer hacker girl/muscle girl.

Cursed systems appreciator who has spent a lot of time thinking about CI/dev tools/platform eng.

Frequently interested in things people think are "too difficult" or "witchcraft": analog electronics design, music, chemistry/materials science, qualia, etc.

Was thinking about painting my fingernails today and was actually a little worried that I would feel not butch enough. Ended up doing so anyway, but black and fluorescent yellow-green aren't exactly femme

Wait, a Philosophy Tube video where she doesn't wear a single latex outfit?

recursive,
@recursive@hachyderm.io avatar

OMG, she does some scenes talking to her old self.

old Philosophy Tube: Were you dressed like this?

Abigail: I dress however I want. 🤷‍♀️ Dude, that's the whole point! The whole thing is so liberating!

C: “What?! What is an offset bread crumb? How can a crumb have a zig-zag?”

Me: “Noooo, offset bread knives

C: “Ohhhhh, then your knuckles don’t hit the cutting board”

@karlhigley I still have the one which I think I bought 20 years ago after Anthony Bourdain recommended it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001EK2US/

Doesn't get as much use now that I don't eat gluten, but wonderful for cutting cardboard too 🙃

You know what’s really great about doing full stack development?

Yeah, me either.

I had this API service ready a month ago, but writing the user-facing client just made my soul tired.

There are many ways in which societal collapse would be bad for me, but I've thought about how the collapse of real estate would make it more practical to open a dyke bar https://mastodon.nz/@pezmico/112459682946690455

I...I think my boobs have gotten bigger again? I'm 4 years on HRT, and they are still getting bigger?!

And I am one of the only trans girls on the fedi who seems to want modestly sized boobs! 😅😅😅

recursive,
@recursive@hachyderm.io avatar

@JoscelynTransient Nah, most of the time I'm happy with the compact size

It's fun and satisfying to understand enough abstract algebra to realize that the algebraic structures being considered don't necessarily have to contain sets of numbers.

Now the term "algebraic data type" in the context of programming languages makes a lot more sense.

I suspect I'm going to enjoy topology a lot

The Polar H10 is a nice heart rate sensor, but if you want more than a 95 cm chest strap, you have to buy the base package and an additional $40 accessory strap.

On the bright side, I guess I can feel accomplished for having hulked out of it

I think walking with a weighted backpack (aka rucking) is the one kind of cardio I actually enjoy.

It's definitely requiring me to gradually adapt, I'm currently carrying about 10% of my body weight, may scale that up as high as 25% eventually

recursive,
@recursive@hachyderm.io avatar

Seems to be getting me solidly into zone 2 heart rate, as it starts to get too easy for that it seems my feet and trapezius are ready for more weight. Been doing it in lightweight boots instead of my usual warm weather Fivefingers, those were a little too rough on my feet for now

recursive,
@recursive@hachyderm.io avatar

I think a thing I've been thinking a lot about lately (as I mostly exercise even more than usual, mostly to deal with psychological stress of complex origins) is that the belief that

"The body requires care and maintenance"

is quite a different thing from all the

"You should do all these things or else you're guilty of being an unhealthy person"

which it seems we hear in this society.

The personal relationship and self-love matters

@recursive@hachyderm.io avatar

One of the interesting things about pullups as an exercise is that you rarely get to doing pullups by doing machine assisted pullups, you usually have to do the really hard stuff like negatives (jump pullups) or dead hangs

recursive,
@recursive@hachyderm.io avatar

There's something fascinating to me about how subjective the discomfort of an experience like hanging from the pullup bar is.

It's like, I've achieved mental abilities I couldn't have dreamed of a decade ago. So how much further until I reach enlightenment? Nobody knows

recursive,
@recursive@hachyderm.io avatar

I also think all the instagram/podcast longevity bro influencers are full of shit, this isn't some discomfort as delayed gratification, this a life-affirming "choosing to engage in discomfort because it is interesting and weirdly satisfying" not "someone made me think I should because we all live too-easy lives today" (we do not)

An unexpectedly pleasant result of teaching myself some abstract algebra and number theory is that I get to properly indulge my inner child, who is deeply resentful that anyone ever demanded that she believe something based on appeal to authority.

Despite being moved into "two years ahead of most kids" math starting around age 13, until I hit some theoretical computer science stuff in college, it was mostly practical technique and very little proof and hard for me to fake interest in.

recursive,
@recursive@hachyderm.io avatar

(TBH, most of the practically-orineted engineering and computer programming-related math technique that was actually worthwhile to me was limited to signal processing courses and a numerical analysis course.)

Also I'm kind of low-key annoyed that I learned of transcendental numbers when I was 13 but I didn't learn that the set of transcendental numbers has the same cardinality as the set of real numbers until two days ago

so I was reading wikipedia and found

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mammary_ridge#Milk_lines_in_humans

"[Recent study] focal fat pads on the front of human torsos are of mammary ridge origin. 8 pairs of fatty mounds were consistently found running along a curved line from the armpits to the groins [...] This finding explains why fat on the front of the body is less responsive to diet and exercise than fat elsewhere in most people -- [...] breast origin and therefore sensitive more to hormonal influence than caloric intake or burn."

A friend told me they had a dream that Bryan Johnson (the tech billionaire who seems to be transitioning into a woman in his quest to stay young forever) was raffling off packages of the food he eats to remain youthful and my friend won one of them.

When my friend got the food, it came in a minimalist plastic pouch like tuna would come in, except the label said it was human meat. My friend said they decided to try it in their dream.
