My PhD on QCD looked at glueball production. Now, almost 40 years after I started researching, the first glueball might have been discovered.

Sometimes science moves slowly. But it always gets there in the end.

I'm currently reading the proofs of my next book, #QuizzersGuideToTheCosmos

Some of the stuff in there still astonishes me, even though I wrote it. One example:

The gamma-ray burst detected on 9 October 2022 happened two billion light years away. And yet, even at a distance of 20 billion trillion kilometres, the gamma rays affected our planet's atmosphere.

Enjoying a long walk in #York and came across this touching memorial to John Snow, the pioneering epidemiologist. A water pump with its handle removed. Snow was born here in 1813.

The last day of meteorological summer - & my last day at the University of Portsmouth - and it is raining.

I'll miss the commute into the Uni: a 20-minute bicycle ride and then a ferry trip across the Solent. There is always something to see on this short stretch of water.
