Cosy 2nd class compartment with renovated seats but perhaps original brown curtains? Would such curtains fit our home, I wonder.

I assume the kilometre points on Czech lines are where relevant still counted from the original start of the line, in what is now neighbouring Austria, Germany, or Poland? Good that “political correctness” even in Communist times didn’t change that.

Good morning! There is no plug or valve in the bathroom sink, but luckily the toothbrush mug fits almost perfectly.

View from balcony.

No rain expected today, and not too warm either. Ideal.

Took a random regional train from Brno. A very new (2022) Škoda EMU. These trains have individual names, grape varieties grown here in the South Moravian kraj (county?). Mine is called Pálava, not a grape I would know. Ended up in a small town called Židlochovice. Will have breakfast and return to Brno, probably.

All your sweetness needs! And American drinks for foreigners!

Had some cherry cake and Pepsi (not in that place with “American drinks“) and then followed a random small road that turned into a tractor track up a hill. Nice views. Meadows and vineyards.

Doing a round trip, next the short hop to Hrušovany u Brna, with a gloriously coloured monumental presumably former industrial building right by the station.

My second train of the day was named after some red grape variety, tramin červený.

tml,
@tml@urbanists.social avatar

Third grape: Aurelius.

My mission, should I choose to accept it, is to find wines made of these grape varieties and drink them in the same order.

It is great to see how many passengers these regional trains have.

And now an InterPanter. Even has first class! Would go all the way to Olomouc but no dining car though so I will go just to Břeclav.

tml,
@tml@urbanists.social avatar

Břeclav should be ideal for some trainspotting, right?

tml,
@tml@urbanists.social avatar

Oh yes 👍❤️🤘. So many types of locos parked. So many trains coming and going.

First pic: The Mighty Vectron must be pleased.

Second pic: A tiny baby still, might grow up to be a big strong loco.

Third and fourth: Some pensioners.

And then taking a EuroCity back towards Brno. Having dinner in the @diningcar so will go a bit past Brno and then return. Sadly they are out of this month’s special, the minced veal with mashed potatoes. (But I had that already earlier, was good even if a bit on the salty side.)

tml,
@tml@urbanists.social avatar

@diningcar I ordered the same pea-based soup as in the month’s menu and a different main course, pork. Soup was good, pork, well, as expected. (Not a big fan.) But the potatoes and baby spinach was good. @diningcar

I am glad I am much east and north of the flooded regions… hopefully my journey homewill not be affected. Will start homeward on Wednesday. From Brno towards Praha, Dresden, Berlin, Hamburg etc.

"I can create both a 32-bits as well as a 64-bits Prefix for you, but do you actually know what I'm talking about here? If not, just accept the default here. Honestly, you don't want to change it if you can't name one advantage of 64-bits over 32-bits other than that 64 is a higher number and when you buy a car or washing machine, you also always choose the one with the highest number."

LMAO :blobcatlul:

tml,
@tml@urbanists.social avatar

@niconiconi Even the idea that people who don’t know what they want here should need to answer such a question is ridiculous. (Yes, this means that I find much of how Open Source has been advocated in the past ridiculous.)

So weird to hear them announcing a departure to at Praha hl n ( main station). But insanely great. (Not taking that train, not today at least. Took the one to Kiel, almost as great, that leaves two hours later, about a month ago.)

I wasn’t planning this, but because the neighbours are having a birthday party, the islands are insanely expensive, and I panicked and couldn’t think of anything better than Train World in Brussels, I might* now get to see Antwerp’s port from a train window.

  • Might, because trouble is starting already on the high-speed line to Rotterdam which has been closed all day due to a signalling fault.
tml,
@tml@urbanists.social avatar

@partim Do they still call it a “pre-metro”?
