First part of my #CrossBorderRail today. Munich to Berlin with the ICE Sprinter that only stops in Nürnberg and Berlin Südkreuz. Train is quite crowded, but I have reserved seat, so all is fine. Lots of coughing and sneezing, so the FFP3 mask stays on.
And between Nürnberg and Bamberg it also creeps along at 60-80 km/h including a full stop due to construction work. So yes, we are collecting delays, as unfortunately is quite usual at Deutsche Bahn. Knowing that, I have planned 2 hours for stopover in Berlin before it goes onwards to Warsaw. #CrossBorderRail
Deutsche Bahn and polish trains are very strict. I could have catched the eurocity to Warsaw at 15:52 in Berlin, but no. My reservation is for the 17:52 and cannot be moved. So 2 hours waiting in Berlin it is. #CrossBorderRail
And why did I have to cycle to Montbard (20km), when Nuits-sous-Ravières station is 2km? Because there’s no early TER on a Sunday to connect in Montbard with the TGV to Paris #CrossBorderRail
#CrossBorderRail South East Europe 2024 Train 1 of 66 TGV 6700 08:05 Montbard - Paris Gare de Lyon 09:08 SNCF
Train type: Alstom TGV Néo Duplex, 8 double deck carriages ⚡️ 🚲: ⛔️ 🦽: ✅ (step free, but lift down inside) 🛜: ✅ 🍽️: ✅ 🧳: 😐 (TGV Duplex not great, although today it’s empty enough to be ok) 🧽: 🙂 (spotless inside)
Edit: seems this toot is displaying oddly for some - am working on a fix
Ah. Eurostar (ex Thalys). Dude stands on platform checking tickets. While passengers queue because everyone stowing luggage in the vestibule is slowing everything down. You’d better employ that guy as bag stacker than ticket scan dude. #CrossBorderRail

Tomorrow I will travel from #Munich to #Warsaw by train. Because I can. No need to fly. ICE from Munich to Berlin, Eurocity from Berlin to Warsaw. #CrossBorderRail
Eurostar has sent me their “you’re travelling tomorrow” email.
My train is Paris - Köln.
No security controls like London services.
Yet they’re telling me to arrive at the station 30 mins ahead. That’s not happening as I’m arriving Gare de Lyon 47 mins before departing Nord 🙂 #CrossBorderRail
There's a Portal in front of the station building in Vilnius, similar to the one in Dublin/New York that was temporarily closed earlier this month. I'd forgotten there was one here too. It was cited as the first. The first permanent one maybe... there was a similar one between DUMBO in New York and the South Bank in London about fifteen years ago.
Doing the travel claim for my Nuits-sous-Ravières - Dijon - Strasbourg - Offenburg - Berlin - Büchen - Lübeck - Hamburg- Köln - Paris - Nuits-sous-Ravières trip earlier this month
The good news: it cost €214,30 which is quite fair
The problem?
I had 8 tickets!
Nuits-sous-Ravières - Dijon €11,90
Dijon - Strasbourg €29,00
Strasbourg - Kehl €4,20
Kehl - Berlin €35,15
Berlin - Lübeck - Hamburg €18,65
Hamburg - Köln €23,80
Köln - Paris €65,00
Paris - Nuits-sous-Ravières €26,60
And for the non-rail people among my followers: there are going to be a lot of railway posts from me (more than usual - really!) - so maybe you mute the tag 🙂
Ticketing for one of y the most over-hyped #CrossBorderRail services is a mess - you can’t use a Dutch OV-Chipkaart on the Belgian part of the route, and Belgian passes can’t get you beyond Visé
