I follow a few #KBin communities from my main #Fediverse account and checked out both sites. After 1 hour user testing, in English, I think KBin is more accessible from a navigation and interaction standpoint. I tested with Chrome and NVDA, but I mostly follow communities from my main fediverse account. If you want to try it out, copy a magazine URL into the search on your account. check out communities, or Magazines, to follow at https://kbin.social/magazines#Reddit#RedditMigration#Accessibility#A11y
@weirdwriter This comment really means a lot to me, thank you. Accessibility was important to me, but I haven't read any specifications yet. I simply turned on the screen reader on my laptop and tried to understand it. There's a lot to improve here, but it's wonderful to know that I'm on the right track.
@AskThinkingTim A few days ago, kbin wasn't on that list at all :) It's a huge honor for me, and I'm glad people are enjoying being here. Currently, my main goal is to prepare the infrastructure and sort out the basics. The real fun will start when migratories between platforms are established. This is the fediverse, and a lot can change here ;)
@maegul Currently, it's a song of the future, but nothing limits us here. Only imagination ;) The only thing that matters to me is that if it does come to fruition, migrations should be possible in both directions.
@garrettw87 Hey, thank you! We are creating a small command center on Matrix. I want to better organize our work with the repository, and any help would definitely be appreciated.
I am essentially excluded from trans spaces on lemmy / kbin because there are no content warnings, and most of them allow politics and I really don't want to hear about the next anti trans law passed somewhere. Hell, I specifically avoid news about my own country because without fail, they always make me depressed.
Edit: Thanks for all the great feedback and suggestions. I decided to create a new #VM in #Proxmox and install #Yunohost so I can try a few different options and see which ones I like and end up using to migrate my current accounts.
Edit 2:
Having #Yunohost behind #Pfsense#Haproxy is giving me trouble, not sure how to proxy_pass on it to avoid issues with double reverse proxy. I will try to run my instances directly from Docker and see if that goes better.

I am fairly new to the Fediverse, but have been in IT and homelab for over a decade, I am thinking or migrating from my current instances and just creating my own instances of Kbin and Mastodon for my personal use only.
Any suggestions or ideas?
Any reasons you would not recommend it?
Security concerns?
Besides Mastodon and Kbin, any other fediverses I should self-host (I thought of Lemmy but it seems I'd be able to subscribe and interact with it just fine through kbin. Also thought of peertube, but unsure or pros/cons since I have not yet even signed up on one of their instances).
Also, 1 shared VM for all of the instances, or 1 for each? I am considering if full VM or LXC, the LXC would be faster and consume less resources but I'm concerned with the security of the host.
Anyway, those are my thoughts, would like some feedback.
@techviator Hey, I've been using kbin on a single instance for a long time. It has been a refreshing experience, and I think is really well suited for it. Currently, it may even work better than on large instances.
Of course, it is an early version, and there are many concerns, including those related to security, we are actively working on addressing them.
However if you have a bit of paitence, create a sandbox environment, and make frequent backups, it should be fine ;)
@techviator If I were to advise you, you should try #YunoHost. With just a few clicks, you can explore various platforms. I hope kbin will be there soon too :)
The https://kbin.social server is now federating with the Fediverse. You can follow/interact with kbin.social magazines & users from other Kbin servers, Mastodon & rest of the Fediverse. For example the TIL magazine is at @TodayILearned, the lead dev of Kbin is at @ernest
There's a new Kbin server at https://readit.buzz which is run by the same people as the Universodon.com Mastodon server. It's open for signups, just click "log in" and then "register".
@stux Yes, I'm aware of that. By design, no scripts are embeded after the page is loaded. This requires additional clicks on the icon. Currently, it is intended for... let's call them more conscious users. Currently, it is based on the embed library. I will add a message during the first preview launch that outlines the current risks. It has already been noted in the issues/pull requests, and we will work on improving it. There are many small, bad things that I will take care of. I had the choice to either publish it in this form or never show it to the world because there would never be a time when I would be fully satisfied.
