Restore immich photo backup?

I have been backing up the photos folder for my immich. Something weird happened with one of my hard drives so i had to restore. It has a folder for each year and inside there is a folder for each day. immich doesnt support the ability to drag and drop the year folder into the UI. What’s the best way to get all my media back...

Beginner in need of real help!

I’ve been interested in self-hosting for a while, but didn’t really know where to start. I’ve never messed with Linux before and wanted to jump ship from Windows since Microsoft decided to start putting ads everywhere. I came across this post [lemmy.world/post/6542543] which was exactly what I was looking for to start, and...

It is interesting to see in that the switch from 12V to 24V for my fans is actually increasing the power cost of a print noticeably by more than 10% (Top is the power cost at 24V, bottom at 12V)
But all in all I am still amazed at how little power actually plays into the total cost of a print.

@DJGummikuh
Then it's perfectly understandable that the energy consumption rises. More work is done in the same time. 😊

Has anyone managed to use the NVMe base board by directly loading OS on to the NVME drive? Or do I really have to do the dance of loading OS on SD card first? @geerlingguy @gadgetoid

geerlingguy,
@geerlingguy@mastodon.social avatar

@piofthings @gadgetoid I flash my NVMe with a little USB-C NVMe adapter where you pop it on the top

piofthings,
@piofthings@mastodon.social avatar

@geerlingguy thanks, can I just load OS in the NVME drive like that and expect the Pi to boot straight up? Or do I need to follow the "Installing your OS onto the NVMe SSD" in this guide https://learn.pimoroni.com/article/getting-started-with-nvme-base , to the letter? @gadgetoid

Building My Home Server | Kev Quirk (kevquirk.com)

I came across this blog today while searching and I’m finding it very detailed, human, and instructive. For a beginner like me, this kind of resource is invaluable. What does a server failure feel like at a personal level? How do you make decisions about cost or utilizing existing hardware? These kind of thoughtful reflections...

Dropped some updates to selfh.st/apps this morning - tiles now have visible/clickable tags, URL properties have been added for sharing custom views with others, and I've added a ton of new project icons.

I'm completely open to feedback on future improvements, but probably won't consider adding any more details to the tiles to prevent them from becoming too cluttered.

This website solved an issue I had. A good alternative to Typeform. Because we all know 21 EUR/month * 12 months (252 EUR) for a subscription is absolute horseshit.

I am now testing with https://heyform.net/ (Selfhosted) :D

Contemplating adding a SkyConnect Zigbee dongle to our Home Assistant. Seems to be pretty ok, or at least as reliable as Zigbee in general gets. Initially just a couple of basic Aqara sensors to test with. Anything larger will need routers/repeaters for better reach.

chakie,
@chakie@toot.community avatar

@holgerschurig I’ve seen that people prefer that over ZHA. Not exactly sure how it works though. It gets the Z data and then shoves it into Mosquitto from which another part of HA gets it? Sounds a bit complicated? We do have a Mosquitto running already for some other stuff so setup would be easy.

holgerschurig,

@chakie It might sound complicated, but you as a user won't notice the complication.

The benefit of ZB2MQTT is that it supports way more devices than ZHA. And that they even have a database of supported devices. Together with hints on how to pair them (e.g. what buttons to press how often, or how long, to start the pairing process).

https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/supported-devices/ (takes a bit longer to load because it's quite a few devices)

For ZHA you cannot really know if a device is supported. Unless you search in forums. A bit tedious, if you ask me

Once the other side: once Thread/Matter materializes, then ZHA will support that, but ZB2MQTT most likely not.

What file format do you store your media in?

Hello! I recently listened to a podcast that talked about how storing media files in .av1 format is very efficient and storage-friendly. I’ve been storing my files in .mkv format, but now I’m considering using Handbrake or a similar service to convert all my video files to .av1 if it’s more compressed than .mkv. So;...

I had an irritating email from RealVNC, telling me I will have to pay to access more than 3 of my machines. Fortunately, I will be able to use the new "Raspberry Pi Connect: Remote Access to your Pi from any Web Browser", apart from the one Pi I can't update.

@anze3db@fosstodon.org avatar

@ayo @levlaz having a RPi server is a lot of fun! Note that it does need a power supply to work so you’ll need that + an external display to code with it on the train.

anze3db,
@anze3db@fosstodon.org avatar

@ayo a case with active cooling can be useful if you are maxing out the cpu, but it is not necessary. I have an 11’ external display for mine so that I can easily see cpu/mem/network

How much does it matter what type of harddisk i buy for my server?

Hello, I’m relatively new to self-hosting and recently started using Unraid, which I find fantastic! I’m now considering upgrading my storage capacity by purchasing either an 8TB or 10TB hard drive.
