Et voila! Vienna bread with a dutch crunch topping, hot out of the oven, with a pic of the book responsible. i’m flabbergasted by the oven spring on these! they inflated like balloons!

kind of not surprised, but also very surprised. i mean, i can see (jokingly) flipping each other off -- but flashing footage of 9/11 to NYC? that's horrible!

"Doctor Who" returned at the weekend with a double bill — "Space Babies" and "The Devil’s Chord." Here's a Rolling Stone U.K. interview from last year with the 15th Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa, in which he talks about his approach to the character and how he identifies with them. "As a child, Gatwa and his family fled Rwanda, escaping the genocide against the Tutsi minority. They settled in Scotland," writes journalist Alison Rumfitt. “This person survived a genocide. This person fits in everywhere and nowhere. I am the Doctor. The Doctor is me. I decided that I had to get this role,” Gatwa told her. How do you feel about the new series so far?

As a northern Nevadan, i'm so proud of Jacky Rosen. DeJoy is AWFUL, and he needs to be sacked and his revamp of the postal system needs to be halted immediately. It's going to end up with so many people impacted, and maybe even dying if they can't get their meds on time. Rural people in Montana are already feeling the effects of this plan. It's so bad.

I've always guessed this was the case for everyone. My own two rules of thumb for cooking from recipes are:

  1. I assume the times given to make it are for professionals who probably have a sous chef; and

  2. I'm cooking because i enjoy it. i don't want to be stressed about it, so i just plan on it taking much longer. It's fine by me as long as the result is tasty.

Euronews's David Mouriquand has had it with "immersive exhibitions" — magnified replicas of paintings projected onto gallery walls. He says of the Van Gogh show he saw, "[It] made me want to forcibly shove fistfuls of sunflowers down my throat to make the experience end quicker," and describing the Klimt exhibition in Warsaw as "atrocious." Here's his no-holds-barred essay (read: rant) on the subject. What do you think of immersive exhibitions? Explain why in the comments.

@CultureDesk @artstodon @euronews @culture They are kind of gaudy and can be a bit overwhelming, true, but they help expose more people to artists, and artwork they might not otherwise get to learn about or see. How is that a bad thing?

So, i started this batch of miso back in December of 2020, about 9 months into the pandemic. Technically it was finished in December 2021, but i’ve read about aged misos that are 5+ years old, so i just decided to keep it rolling along. it’s now so salty rich and dark that it looks like baked brownies.

I have a director’s chair I bought ~30 years ago, when I needed chairs and they were cheap at Pier One. The wood was looking dry so put mineral oil on it … and realized it still had playa dust on it from EIGHT years ago. The canvas is fine (tiny mold spot in one spot from all the rain), the wood frame is fine, and it folds up to slightly larger than today’s camp chairs — which rarely last that long with the same amount of abuse. I’m basically Team Wood and Canvas forever.

Dr_Bombay,
@Dr_Bombay@mstdn.social avatar

@jonobie I miss Pier One! they had some quality stuff. We have a set of those director's chairs in storage, too, and they are still solid as the day we bought them.
