Former Marine journalist and photographer.
I’m married to a wonderful caring woman. Yeah… gay.

I’m a parent. Small business owner. I use ellipses way more than a person should.
Kinda into photography, songwriting, hammering metal, short stories, watercolor… stuff.

I like riding my bike and I love my dog.

Oh… and I’m a trans girl.

Going to the restroom for a trans woman can be so anxiety inducing. I know for me it can be anyway. All I wanna do is get in and get out without any issues, hassles or problems.

But I had something happen while I was at lunch with my mother in-law that was rather affirming as a woman. It’s the opposite of what I’ve imagined could happen to me going to the women’s restroom.

I was washing my hands when a woman about my age came out of the other stall. She looked at me, straight in the face and asked if I could zip up the back of her dress. She didn’t even wait for a response. She just turned around and pulled up her hair. Then said, “It’s so hard to do this by yourself. So much easier when you have help. Thanks.”

She didn’t see me as a predator. Didn’t see me as someone who shouldn’t be in there. She saw me as another woman who simply would understand the need to have help zipping up the back of her dress.

I almost started crying.

I, a trans girl, went into the women’s restroom and nothing happened, except for another woman asked for my help.

So the date/girl’s day out with my mother in-law began about an hour ago.

Have you ever been around someone who is described as an energy vampire but is a little old lady but kinda acts like a toddler where everything appears completely brand new?

It’s only been an hour and I’m already exhausted. I look kind of cute though I guess.

A quick update here at mi casa after that wild storm yesterday.

My subdivision is entirely without power still. Seems like I read the power company has about 4,000 line techs coming in from nearby regions to help try and put this all back together.

Crossing my fingers it happens soon for everyone here. It’s predicted to get up to 90°F tomorrow and with the rain we had… the humidity will be givin’ some folks a severe case of the frizzy hair.

Prolly wear mine in braids when I get out tomorrow beecawwwzzz…

I get to take my mother in-law to an eye doc appt.

No, no, no.
Don’t be jealous y’all.
And I don’t want to add salt or nuthin’… but I’ll probably get to take her to lunch afterward too.

That lightning was friggin’ close!

The wind is really bad right now. I’m kind of hunkered down behind a small building trying to block the wind and rain.

My wife just called and they have all gone into a center room that has no windows. Tornado has touched down in the area at my house. I’m still on the road.

Still trying to make it home.
There are a lot of places that look like they don’t have power. And there are a lot of small and thick tree branches that have been ripped off the trees.

But this big guy right here got pushed right over into the road. Rain soaked ground and a really strong wind was just too much for him.

An approximate 40ft tree toppled over at the roots, half of it blocking two lanes of a road in Northwest Harris County, Texas. This was result of rain over many days and high winds that occurred with a sudden storm.

Hi everyone. Thank you all so much for your concern and checking in with me. I did finally make it home around 8:30pm. There were downed trees and traffic lights out in the area that made it really difficult to finally get to my house.

I had a huge branch get ripped off the tree in my front yard from the wind. It was about 8 inches wide from where I got pulled off. Luckily it didn’t hit any of our vehicles. But we’re under a flood watch until 7am, so my stepson and I cut it into manageable pieces to get it out of the way because it was blocking my driveway. I just got done about 20 minutes ago.

The power is out here and my little emergency hotspot is running low on power so this will probably be my last update for a little while. Cell towers are straining to keep up. I’ll update as soon as I can.

If you would please send out some good mojo, positive energy, prayers, whatever you can throw to the people out here in Houston. There are some folks who are gonna be hurting pretty bad because of this.

One of my neighbors has a full house generator, which helps so much for my next door neighbor who needs to keep her insulin refrigerated. Another neighbor across the street had a huge tree topple over from the roots onto her house.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in a relationship?

Mine might sound kind of dark in relation to the question, but here goes:

People change, and they should, it's part of being a person. Some people are lucky, and they change in the same direction, but some don't, and that's okay too. There's no shame in leaving a relationship or changing the nature of a relationship that no longer serves you. We are all taught that every relationship, whether romantic or friendship, is supposed to last forever, but nothing is forever, and forcing something that no longer works, just ends in anger and bitterness. Knowing when to let go is as important as knowing when to hold on through a rough patch, and how to know either of those things is the most cliché advice of all, COMMUNICATE.

I think this is one of the most important aspects of a relationship. And I'm assuming the relationship Ricki intended was a romantic relationship but I think it can apply to a business relationship or friends relationship.

My wife met her bestie about a year and a half ago. And very early on my wife decided not to mask her bit of neuro spicy autism which had been formally diagnosed a few months earlier. Turns out her friend has a touch of the neuro spiciness and they are like two peas in a pod.

If this friend of hers wasn't straight as an arrow, I'd say they'd make better marital partners than my wife and I do.

I recently came across someone talking a little bit about a quote attributed to the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche:

"Not the absence of love, but the absence of friendship makes the unfortunate marriages."

I would agree.
I remember when I was in college as a teen, I took a sociology class and on the subject, the professor said, "Find someone who is EXACTLY like you in every way, except the opposite sex. Or the same sex if that is who you are attracted to."

So I would tell someone who is ready to be in a romantic relationship... Be friends. Find your best friend because good, hard, strong friendship is the highest form of love.

My late mother was a really big fan of Charley Pride, a crooner of country music in the 70s. I had no idea he was ground breaking as a black musician in country music at the time.

And although I grew up steeped in country music because of my momma in the 70s, my teens found me turning to rock.

I'm headed back to Lowe's. I was supposed to get caulk there yesterday but never made it inside the store, got "lost" in the nursery, only bought plants. I think today I should park and enter the store. I need caulk. I'm telling you this to hold myself accountable.

@Bianca and I had an absolutely blast last night at the Winston Salem Hype Hens(Usually the Dash) game last night here in Winston Salem.

Winston Salem won the game 3 - 0 against the Asheville Tourists.

As you see, we even got to hang out with Bolt for a bit during the game!

I love minor league baseball. It feels like it has a different energy than the big leagues. Like the guys still have a bit of that “love of the game” spark still left in them.

We used to have a semi-pro team in the area, which felt very minor league-ish… The Sugar Land Skeeters. Loved it. We even bought a mini season tix package a couple of seasons.

It got bought and is now a farm team for the Astros. Mascot is the Space Cowboys. Very unfortunate.

Our new adopted team is from my wife’s hometown of Amarillo… Go ! We were able to catch a game when she was at a biz conference in Corpus Cristi last year. Fun times. Sod Poodles won!

Well how neat is that. Such a fun little ball park right? Pretty much not a bad seat in the house. Haven’t been since it became the home to the Space Cowboys though.

We might have a chance to catch The Sod Poodles a couple of times this year though. Really hope we can. Maybe in Fort Worth as she has a conference there when they’ll be in town. And we might visit her brother in San Antone when the team is there to play The Missions.
