Former Marine journalist and photographer.
I’m married to a wonderful caring woman. Yeah… gay.

I’m a parent. Small business owner. I use ellipses way more than a person should.
Kinda into photography, songwriting, hammering metal, short stories, watercolor… stuff.

I like riding my bike and I love my dog.

Oh… and I’m a trans girl.

I’m having a rough go of it lately. Feeling stressed and sort of adrift... like I’m unmoored and don’t know how to get back to a starting point.

The bathroom project is stressing me pretty bad. My mother in-law has lifelong untreated mental health issues that manifesting more and more. As it result she is causing stress for all of us in the house. We have my wife’s youngest staying with us for a couple of weeks while off from college which adds to the dynamic and not really in a good way.

We had a heavy rainstorm that happened about a month ago that flooded our street in the middle of the night. We didn’t know until we realized one of our cars started smelling like mold a couple days later. Just found out insurance totaled it and we are screwed because of that.

I’m still dealing with pretty serious physical health problems, work sucks, my biz partner is horrid immature man-child, pretty sure i fucked up my tax filing and actually owe a lot of money, i don’t have a therapist anymore (haven’t for two months) and I stubbed my little toe this morning.

Besides that I’m doing fucking great.

It's kinda tough but I'm hangin' in there.
So like most trans peeps, my therapist has been trained in gender issues for trans folks.

The reason I haven't been able to see him is because he's had some serious health issues and is now part time.

I really like him a LOT. He is SUCH a sweet guy... kinda like a gay uncle you can tell anything and know he won't go tell mom.

So... I'm worried about him, too. Good job HE did helping me with anxiety. 😜
At least I can still joke about things. No use crying about it.

I unfortunately don't but I think I'm going to have to concede that I won't be able to talk to my therapist anymore and look for another. 🙁

And I probably need to soon. Heavy hangs the head that wears the DIY crown.

A big relief has been getting the toilet and vanity functioning in the reno project. That was huge.

The youngest will be leaving in time, which admittedly he isn't causing that much stress, it just adds to the number of adult humans in our small, modest house.

I'm lucky, in that I have insurance but to at least compensate some for the loss of the vehicle but we can't really take on a car payment just yet.

Feels like a lot of things being juggled but at least a few will be getting pulled away.

My late mother used to say something like, "it's a fool who laughs at their own jokes" but in Spanish so it kinda hits a little different... almost funny in and of itself.

It took me three times trying to do this because I was laughing so hard at how funny I thought I was being with the uno dos three four.

At least I make myself laugh. 😆

Since last updating, I have made some huge progress on the bathroom project that is a significant milestone.

Functioning vanity, toilet and overhead light fixture installed. I also fabricated the window sill and trimmed it out.

So many little steps involved to get each one of those things completed. It’s crazy how much is involved with each one. Getting closer.

Pro tip: don’t step on the wax ring when installing your toilet.

Next… tiling the bathtub surround.

There's this thing called Williams syndrome where people who have it tend to be very happy and outgoing and friendly, but it comes at a detriment because they can be TOO friendly and trusting and potentially end up in dangerous situations as a result.

I share a lot of the emotional and psychological traits, but I know I don’t have it because there are associated physical traits and I don’t have any of those.

Either way, there is definitely something going on with me where I am completely oblivious to any sort of threat or danger and, whenever my husband is concerned about a situation, he calls me "William" and I snap out of it.

He's not making fun of me or people with Williams syndrome and it's just kind of a code to alert me to potentially scary situations and I’m so grateful to have him around because I'd probably be dead or trapped in someone's basement if it weren't for him.

I had no idea there was a syndrome like this. My ex-wife was like this sort of though.

She always saw the good in people and rarely let things upset her or see a situation/event as bad.

I recall (without ever really discussing it) that if I reached for her hand and squeezed it a few times or kind of scratched her palm with my finger I could get her attention and through a look or simply saying we should leave, she would understand.

Looks like things have calmed down now. The sky was looking pretty weird though and the rain and wind were amazingly strong for just a thunderstorm.

We've had some flooding events that have effected our house and vehicles enough that I and my wife both get very skittish when the rain comes in like this.

Blech. Glad it's over.

I’ve been listening to Taylor Swift’s latest album TTPD the past few days. When it released I was rather astonished it has 31 songs. After listening, I was equally surprised that more than half are actually really good and not just filler. The opening and title tracks are really good.

One that really stands out is “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” which sounds like a subtoot about some dude that broke Taylor’s heart. It wouldn’t be a Taylor Swift album if it didn’t have a one or two of those.

But what I like about it is it’s in 14/8… or 7/4 if you can count it that way. In the verses it almost has a polyrhythmic feeling as well. Music theory is weird. The music is really cool though. I love odd time sigs.

Another stand out for me is “Down Bad” which is kind of about being depressed after a break up… or like, being shown a new way and then losing it.

I also really like “Guilty as Sin”… a song about an affair of the heart. A friend sent a tiktok vid of “Guilty as Sin” but it’s a version.
