One of the best things about Mastodon has been discovering and connecting with new communities by following hashtags. Most of the people I follow are people I’ve met through different tech communities (mostly iOS). Following hashtags like #lakelife#woodworking#DIY#wine and #breadposting has connected me to many people with similar interests that I probably wouldn’t have crossed paths with otherwise. And it’s brought welcome low-tech offline content into my feed.
Not gonna lie, this might be the ugliest thing I've ever built 😭#DIY#DIYgonewrong
Had a chance to sneak into my friends house today to put the kitchen island together and tile the top. The whole time I was like "trust the process" but yall THE PROCESS IS ALMOST DONE AND IT'S STILL UGLY 😭😭
I painted the chimney breast in my living room and it makes me so happy I keep walking into the kitchen so I can go back into the living room to see it again fresh. #DIY#HomeDecor
Orange FM - a cartridge under development for Game Boy with a World Band 64-108 Mhz FM radio. It can utilize the Game Boy's speaker (see chart) and will be able to accommodate most FM broadcast setups around the world 📻 🤯 https://orangeglo.github.io/orangefm
Whoop!
Newbies welcome! 🥰 @fiberarts @handarbeiten
On today's episode of ✨️ Gina's Unnecessary #DIY Projects ✨️ We're building a kitchen island from wood scraps! Yaaay.
I need to get rid of these old boards and tiles in my shed, and my friend needs a kitchen island. Win win, right? 🔥
Current status: after some advanced maths I realized I don't have enough wood, so now the challenge is to find beams for the legs that look sort of similar to the rest of the wood. Aka "such a fun and cheap project wait how did this still cost me €100?" 💸💸💸
It's very simple, it's a theremin walkman. One hand/antenna controls the speed of the tape and the other hand/antenna controls the amplitude. The video is one of the early working prototypes.
Some thoughts:
It's a shame that you can't do this project today. Because in the past you could find Walkmans very cheaply (1-5 EUR) at flea markets or even in the trash. For the theremin part you only needed two antennas, some resistors, one transistor and an attiny84. I found so many Walkmans that it was even possible to organize workshops.
Anyway, capitalism has to reproduce itself and therefore I will find new material. In 15-20 years I'll be doing projects with current smartphones or the Pis and SBCs you're all using at the moment 😀
I found an old funny video/documentation: Thereman (2013-2014) It's very simple, it's a theremin walkman. We have this accordion/sliding door in our house. The circled spring-loaded peg on the bottom of the door (matching the one on top) got pushed all the way into the frame through the particle board. How would I replace it in a way that’ll last?
I've always been fascinated by these small computers. GPD makes these kinds of devices too. Ordered one once but I never got it. Been thinking of building one myself though I'm worried it would be too small to enjoyable use. I would definitely write on it, that I am sure of.
By sewing the third layer of leaves so that the leaves stand upward a little, I was able to give the pillow some more shape, and it all fits together much more nicely. There are still gaps between the leaves, which I hope won't make the whole pillow too fragile. But the changed geometry definitely reduced the gaps!
