“Judge Merchan is not sentencing a defendant who merely cooked the books to hide one sordid affair, but a man with a proven pattern of abusing individuals, cheating at business and, most critically, corrupting the electoral process to gain and keep presidential power.”

Frank O. Bowman III is an emeritus professor at the University of Missouri School of Law and co-author of the "Federal Sentencing Guidelines Handbook."

What natural disaster comes to mind when you think of California?

I’m guessing earthquakes.

Flood risk - absolute, per catastrophic event - may be far more dangerous and costly.

If the Great Flood of 1862 were to happen today, it “would probably eclipse the devastation of a major California earthquake and cause up to $1 trillion in damage.”

However, it doesn’t show up in recent geologic records. Yet two bigger ones do. 😳

YES!

@juddlegum deconstructs then skewers MAGA and political-chattering-class talking points (even from “libs”) about Trump’s guilty verdicts.

I’ve been saying that the judgment is rare not because Bragg is biased (out to get TFG) but because his ACTIONS WERE EXCEPTIONALLY RARE. Judd says is better and with a bigger mic.

Time to cancel @washingtonpost subscription.

New executive editor (breaking news) is ex-WSJ and will run the paper thru November. His replacement is from The Telegraph.

New publisher (late 2023) is ex-WSJ (Rupert Murdoch/FOX) and UK Telegraph (which has endorsed the Conservative Party in every UK general election since 1945).

This is how Bezos joins Wall Street billionaires who are endorsing Trump.

Despite the belief of the New York Times editorial board - evidenced by this headline - NOTHING about the Trump trial was a SPORTING EVENT.

Twelve anonymous New York citizens found former President Donald Trump guilty of 34 felony counts: falsifying business records with the intent to illegally affect the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.

Not Joe Biden. Not Alvin Bragg. Not Juan Merchan.

Twelve citizens.

Delicious timing. The NDA on has expired and producer Bill Pruitt confesses.

As tries “to persuade Americans to elect him again, in part thanks to the myth we created, I can finally tell you what making Trump into what he is today looked like from my side. Most days were revealing. Some still haunt me, two decades later.”

“Trump’s actual offices are, however, less than telegenic...

“We need what grifters call the Big Store: a fake but authentic-looking establishment in which the con goes down.

“[The Trump Tower mezzanine is] unfinished. Trump offers the space to the production—at a premium, naturally—and it is inside this location that we create our own ‘reception area’ with doors leading to a fake, dimly lit, and appropriately ominous-feeling ‘boardroom’.”

When The New York Times broke the story on May 16th that Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito had an upside-down American flag flying at his suburban DC home three days before President Joe Biden’s inauguration, my first question was “why now”?

In other words, what had happened to trigger this story, three years late?

We still don't know. But we do know that The Post sat on the story for more than three years.

“raw milk containing #H5N1 can remain infectious for weeks when stored at refrigerator temperatures”

Common sense substantiated by research, that.

Researchers also gave mice raw milk containing H5N1. The virus almost immediately began affecting them.

Euthanized on day four, and still:
“the mice had high levels of H5N1 bird flu virus in their respiratory tracts, as well their hearts, kidneys, spleens, livers, mammary glands, and brains.”

The International Court of Justice has ordered Israel to stop its assault on Rafah. South Africa complained of genocide.

"The State of Israel shall, in conformity with its obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide... Immediately halt its military offensive, and any other action in the Rafah Governorate…”

It is unlikely to comply.

In Oregon, a citizen whistleblower turned to The Guardian to share recordings tying at least 66 candidates for local GOP leadership to the group organized by militant militia leader Ammon Bundy.

CENTRAL Oregon: Deschutes, Crook, and Jefferson counties

Did the Oregonian turn it down? The NYT? WaPo?

Or did the citizen turn to @theguardian_world_news because it regularly speaks-truth-to-power (unlike US media)?
