IMO, the biggest hurdles of the Activision Blizzard acquisition are yet to come: how do you fix several huge toxic, angry communities and a string of IPs that are not in a good place.
Blizzard, in particular, is in real trouble with World of Warcraft, Overwatch and Diablo. It really does feel like the spell over WoW's userbase has been broken, and we've passed an inflection point.
@stroughtonsmith I may be way off but I think that reinvigorating WoW may take a major paradigm shift of some kind.
Last I knew (been too busy to play much since DF launched) the game was still centered around competitive PvE (M+ and raids), a type of content that from my point of view has seen waning interest due to the time and effort required, especially at the high end with how complicated boss fights have become.
@stroughtonsmith honestly shadowlands was the peak of the troubles with WoW, dragonflight has been a breath of fresh air and it’s bizarre how much better it is than SL was
@stroughtonsmith Dragonflight won back a lot of people, and with Metzen back I think there's a lot of cautious optimism. The Overwatch community is a dumpster fire though.
@stevex it won over a core number of people (I dunno about 'back’), but I haven't been able to pop LFR queues in months, and my guild hasn’t even logged in this expansion — it doesn't feel like there's enough of a playerbase overall, and there are too many other games competing for attention and doing a better job
