Stress is hard on the body and right now I am certainly feeling it. But I also know that I can remove myself from what is stressing me out-this damn neighborhood and it's HOA. So, remove myself I will. I'm not responsible for these folks. They had time before this to help sort it out. They didn't act. I won't be put between a rock and a hard place by any of them

@GQB I really hear you, having been thru this with really awful neighbours/body corporate bullshit myself. It can have such a massive impact on your mental and physical health.

So I'm just saying .. you are fabulous and lovely and deserve peace and happiness, and they don't deserve any of your skills or energy. Self-care and preservation for the win! 💜 🫂

Was reading Paul Thurrott's defense of Microsoft's Recall feature.

If there was ever an example of a journalist who has lost sight of his objectivity, this is it.

Goes on about how we all over-reacted, and how had nothing but good intentions, and that we should all just trust Microsoft to A) keep our data secure and B) to never upload the data from Recall onto their servers. Because we all *Know MS is very trustworthy.

Looks like he did come around a bit, but his latest premium article on the nonsense is still a bit too "I trust Microsoft" for me.

Meowie_Gamer,

@thelinuxcast my philosophy is: "never trust a publicly traded corporation" because they will not hesitate to screw you over if it means they can maintain growth.

Hm.

So my cell provider has no good plan for roaming to Europe. So the last time I was in France, I got a local phone number and a SIM card so I could use Internet while I was there. It was a bit of a pain to get the SIM so I put it somewhere I'd be able to find it* when I next needed it.

Now I can't find it.

Can anyone think of a way to get a French cell phone SIM either without leaving Toronto, or without leaving Charles De Gaulle?

  • Probably in that one purse I threw away a few years ago.
broonie,

@mcc If you have any other European SIMs (or SIMs from anywhere else for that matter) it might be worth checking if they support roaming to France? Some countries seem to offer great roaming as a standard thing, I was using a Singaporean eSIM in Japan earlier this year.

tedmielczarek,
@tedmielczarek@mastodon.social avatar

@mcc others have mentioned e-SIMs already so I'll just give you a specific reference: I've used Airalo to purchase and install e-SIMs for several countries over the past few years and it has worked well. (Belize, Germany, Iceland, Colombia).

I was going to turn off Paramount + for a few months because I knew there was nothing that I would be interested until around August, and they offered me 2 free months if I didn't cancel.

So that worked out for me.

Since I'm not paying for that I'm going to restart Disney + and get caught up on all of the Star Wars and Doctor Who stuff.

I firmly believe the reason most people complain about paying for streaming, is because they don't cancel their subscription when there's nothing to watch.

Mrfunkedude,
@Mrfunkedude@mastodon.social avatar

My system is simple...

I have a monthly budget for streaming.

I only pay for streaming services where I am watching MULTIPLE shows on it.

If I'm not, I don't subscribe until I know there are SEVERAL shows that I'd like to watch.

If there are more services that have shows that I want to watch then what will fit in my budget, I will wait until an opening occurs.

That's pretty much it.

Mrfunkedude,
@Mrfunkedude@mastodon.social avatar

I bet in the future, A.I. will be able to track your viewing habits and subscribe/unsubscribe for you.

Hmmm... on second thought that may not be a good idea. I could see that being problematic.

Is there any more readily disprovable and commonly accepted "fact" than spoons exploding in the microwave? It's almost always fine, and if it isn't you'll get some small sparks at worst

You probably think I'm kidding, and you could probably prove it in under a minute if you're at home, but you won't because you're scared of experiencing true freedom

Electronics repair of the day. Air pump/inverter/USB charger/jump box. We use it a lot. Someone suggested it get tossed. I bought a new battery and it's back in business.

ai6yr, (edited )
@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org avatar

A new unit is $180 to $350 depending on who you buy it from (why the difference, I do not know). A new battery, bought locally (Batteries Plus) was pricey, at almost $70... but having been bitten by a large number of either counterfeit or fake batteries at Uncle Jeff's Online Emporium (Amazon), I have switched to local purchases until someone here can suggest a better alternative....

Caught Paying People to Attend Rally

A Craigslist ad has been found offering payment for people to attend Trump's rally in Las Vegas today.

Remember the video from a few days ago where Trump was waving at a non-existent crowd? It appears EVERYTHING IS A FACADE.

The media wants you to think Trump has enthusiasm, but the facts say otherwise.

@GottaLaff I'm not entirely sure why we're all surprised at this. It's a zillion degrees in Vegas right now, and Trump's polling has taken a serious hit following his felony convictions.
