Do you have a birthday tree? A tree planted when you were born? is it still around? Can you still visit it? If you lost everything would it be a crazy idea to just go to wherever the tree is and take care of it?

@futurebird I planted an oak tree with my grandfather in his back yard when I was 4. The new owner of that house cut it down to build a shed. When I found out, this was particularly devastating to me. It would have been better to be able to always believe the tree was still alive.

I think the wetlands were the last straw for me. I was never one of those people who hated billionaires -- they are after all human people.

But, I think about the species of ants and springtails we will never know, because they will be driven to extinction before anyone can even name them--how the climate will harm the people globally least responsible for the change and least equipped to survive--

I think about space, vast, and empty of life except for HERE.

And I get angry.

@juddlegum If Joe Biden had accepted millions of bribes and there was actual evidence, I would demand he be immediately impeached, charged, and imprisoned. I would then demand the Democratic party do intensive analysis and soul searching about how this person was nominated and then elected. This is because I can vote for someone without belonging to a personality cult.

I feel like even the people who dislike Musk are putting too much stock into the genius supervillain narrative. It's highly unlikely he's slowly executing some pre-thought out plan to shift Twitter far right. He's a naïve socially-inept billionaire manchild who got radicalized by a bunch of alt-right grifters. It's as simple as that. No master plan, no 4d chess, just someone who never underwent any real emotional development.

@malwaretech Livejournal was bought and destroyed by Russian oligarchs when it became a platform for dissent. Twitter was a platform for dissent during the Trump years, so the same people simply followed the same playbook.

Got some wonderful video of a carpenter ant major (Camponotus pennslyvanicus) eclosing from her cocoon. Ants can't free themselves without help. Their first moments of adult life are spent being fussed over, cleaned and fed by as many as 8 excited siblings.

The first thing they see is a world full of others who just want to help them. The first place they experience is warm, safe and made just for ants.

@flexghost Pagans have been strongly supportive of gay and trans rights since the 1960s. We have zero religious justification for oppressing gay and trans people. The Abrahamic Monotheisms are the religions that are anti-gay. I sympathize with muslims because they are also religious minorities in the West, but I also know that the Koran says it's OK to kill me for being a polytheist.

    Do any of you have a “to do” list app that you really like? Ideally one that would ask questions eg “what is a task you need to do?” … “is it a multi step task?” … “are there things you must do FIRST?” etc.

    Basically a linear question tree that then makes a to do list. I’m thinking of making one this summer but it probably already exists.

    @futurebird I use Habitica - a to do list app with a 8 bit videogame look and gamification that rewards or hurts you based on whether you have completed your tasks. It can be used to organize daily tasks, one time tasks, and both bad habits you want to stop and good ones you want to reinforce. Larger tasks can have lists of the smaller steps needed to accomplish them.

    @shoq I still don't believe he will ever be convicted of any crime. Justice just has to move slowly enough for him to be reelected. There is a memo saying that presidents can't be charged with crimes while in office.

    I have a lot of concerns about Meta coming soon to the Fediverse.

    I fear what this means for the exchange of information that will inevitably happen between us and them.

    What it means legally,
    what it means technically,
    but mostly what it means ethically.

    I also fear for the culture we have developed here.

    I have deleted my Facebook account 5 years ago and never regretted it. I do not have any other accounts with Meta. For many reasons, I intend to stay away from this unethical corporation as much as I can.

    I do not know what my instance intends to do about this, but personally I will block entirely any instance(s) controlled by Meta. I might also lock my account if necessary. This isn't about the people on there, this is very much about the practices of the corporation that controls it.

    I sincerely hope their presence will not break the Fediverse :geodesic:​

    I hope we will stay strong and fight together for the better world we have started to create ✊:heart_cyber:​

    But I can’t help seeing the arrival of Goliath as a threat to the new world we have built...
