restaurant in is in . The one-time mining boom town is atop the Continental Divide about 200 miles south of the Canadian border. ..about as far from a traditional as you can get. Established in 1911 by Tam Kwong Yee and his business partner, Hum Yow -- both 1st-generation -- occupies a nondescript brick building on the only remaining block of what was once a bustling Chinatown.

@msquebanh This is fascinating. I have been to Butte, Montana, but have never been to this restaurant.

As humans learn more about the language of Sperm Whales I hope they learn how to apologize.

Meowthias,
@Meowthias@mastodon.world avatar

@Gustodon For calling them "sperm whales"?

Meowthias,
@Meowthias@mastodon.world avatar

@Gustodon We were/are really horrible to the whales. And pretty much every other language has a better name for those animals.

So they're finally going to admit that marijuana isn't harmful. That's great news, and only eighty-seven years late.

@Gustodon Even if it is completely descheduled, Nanny Noem will still find a way to keep it from being legal in my state because it would cut the number of Republican voters in half. It might even keep some people from being angry enough to shoot their dogs.

What we learned from Hitler and the Second World War was that the best way to prevent a dictatorship is to stop the Nazis before they get into office.

The more you know.

Meowthias,
@Meowthias@mastodon.world avatar

@HamonWry I'm extremely concerned that our institutions seem to be failing to stop that from happening; our Justice Department seems to be particularly broken. If our country survives the fascist threat I think I will be advocating for massive reforms in our public institutions.

The theme of our next storytelling event will be Dragons & Love (since it's on Valentine's Day).
I just started researching the legend of Lake Tazawa.

It started with one dragon, and now there are two dragons, three lakes, and a 10th century volcanic eruption.

I love my job.

Meowthias,
@Meowthias@mastodon.world avatar

@TarkabarkaHolgy Im currently reading Nart Sagas, and while I love them tremendously, I don't think those stories contain many dragons.

Bombshell from CNN. Let’s connect the dots:

In the last days of his presidency, Trump personally ordered a super-sensitive classified binder of intelligence—about Russia interfering in the election on his behalf—to be delivered to him.

On his way out the door, Trump absconded with boxes of classified material.

The binder contained raw intelligence on Russian agents, including sources and methods. It was never returned. It is still missing.

Meowthias,
@Meowthias@mastodon.world avatar

@JamesGleick Yet our law enforcement and intelligence agencies seem unable to figure out where it is and get it back? Our institutions keep failing us. Why can't the FBI knock on Mark Meadow's door with a search warrant?

    Mike Johnson said before he became House Speaker, "the Lord told me very clearly" to prepare to become a "Moses" who will lead the nation through a "Red Sea moment." Sure, Mike.

    Mike Johnson as Moses? Moses supposes erroneously.

    Yul Brynner saying Moses in Ten Commandments Gene Kelly and Donald O'Connor in Singing in the Rain singing Moses supposes erroneously

    Trying to find people I relate to on Mastodon. Please boost if you:

    -want to say y'all but do not because you are not a southerner and it would feel inauthentic.

    -once saw a psychic who told you that you will die in a Jimmy Fallon-related incident.

    -think that cops should give you a chance to get out of a speeding ticket if you can make them laugh.

    -poke the ground in front of you with a stick before each step to make sure it is not quicksand.

    Meowthias,
    @Meowthias@mastodon.world avatar

    @lowqualityfacts I have a haircutter who claims to be psychic. I stopped going to her when she told me "the spirits" (or whatever) told her that everything will turn out OK for me. She's obviously the world's worst paychic.

    Here's some helpful Mastodon tips for the newcomers on here:

    1. The app automatically scans your thumbprint. Make sure to wear gloves if you don't want this data to be collected and sold to thumb enthusiasts.

    2. The platform has voice-activated capabilities. Try yelling "HUNGRY!" and the nearest Mastodon employee will bring you a snack.

    3. Tell us about yourself! Write either "pro-ghost" or "anti-ghost" in your bio to avoid simple misunderstandings.

    Meowthias,
    @Meowthias@mastodon.world avatar

    @lowqualityfacts Dibbs on "Anti-ghost" as the name of an early 90s industrial side project of another industrial band.

    Today I drove from Santa Fe to Bosque del Apache in south-central New Mexico.

    It was an overwhelming experience and I don't even know where to start trying to describe my emotions.

    I'll simply offer an image as a gesture toward my profound sadness for the trajectory of the past half-millennium.

    Meowthias,
    @Meowthias@mastodon.world avatar

    @ct_bergstrom I grew up in New Mexico and Bosque Del Apache is one of my favorite places on Earth. I tried to go at least once every year.
