What is your dream road trip? Where would you start? Where would you end up? What stops would you make along the way? It can be short or long, whatever interests you!

Schnuckster,
@Schnuckster@beige.party avatar

@RickiTarr As a teenager in Liverpool, I drew out a road trip to visit all 26 (as was) Major League Baseball stadia in a single summer. As a 50 something, these plans came to nought, as I never did learn to drive. 🤣

Schnuckster,
@Schnuckster@beige.party avatar

@RickiTarr I suspect the USA is far bigger than I could ever imagine. It basically started and finished in Seattle and went in a big circle, with awkward inland jaunts to St Louis and KC. It was probably only feasible in a DeLorean.

@RickiTarr Someone did it with NFL teams recently, but fewer games meant it took them about four years.

If you thought we could survive all of this madness, think again. We’re at war with stupidity on a previously unimaginable scale.

Schnuckster,

@shoq I do wonder whether only a brutal civil war will cleanse the USA now.

Moved to the Lock in a forlorn attempt to get closer to what little sun we have today. It's a long way down... 😳🏏

It's a bit cold and gloomy at the Oval, so I'm in the Alcock Balcony, which never gets sun but is at least shielded from the wind and rain. I would also like to welcome our Tripod overlords to the . 🏏

@ianRobinson There's three devices plus the camera for the streaming. I think the near one might be the speed gun because it's bang in line with the pitch. The two white ones are slightly off-centre.

Finally finished The Great Game, which was superb. Moving onto something lighter. This writer is more my older brothers' age than me, so I may not know about the earlier stuff directly, but will have heard about it from them no doubt. 📖 @bookstodon

@bookstodon Book is OK so far, if a bit '70s cliché bingo', and it helps he was a boyhood Evertonian. 📖

Still reading The Great Game, and a meeting between Younghusband and Gromchevsky, mortal enemies getting slashed and talking world politics on a mountain in the middle of nowhere, thinking this should be a two-handed play. Absolutely electrifying. @bookstodon 📖

Bluesky labelled this CD cover 'sexually suggestive content'. Clearly the lads in Moderation don't get much. What a fucking dumpster fire that place is.

Okay, this might sound weird, but this is what I'm thinking of today. I'm assuming most of you know the idiom, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth." I know it's about looking at the horse's teeth to check it's age and health, but in my heart I have an alternate history where it's about The Trojan Horse, which doesn't really even make much sense, but it's still living there rent free.

So, does anyone else do this, make up alternate histories for words or phrases? If you do, I'd love examples!

Schnuckster,
@Schnuckster@beige.party avatar

@RickiTarr The thing that springs to mind is that it's still commonly believed that Ring a Ring a Roses is from the 17th century plague, but there's no evidence of it until the 19th century, and nobody really knows what it means, or if it even means anything.

Schnuckster,
@Schnuckster@beige.party avatar

@RickiTarr Indeed! It didn't even circulate until after the war. None of the supposed symptoms descriptions actually match plague. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_a_Ring_o%27_Roses

Book review for 2024 is Steve Silberman's Neurotribes: The Legacy of Autism and the Future of Neurodiversity. A helpful and informative book on the unfolding journey of and...battles with/for, regarding people who interact with their world differently. I found this book to be helpful in understanding the rise of what we today call neurodiversity. ☕☕☕☕1/2 review. @stevesilberman @books @bookstodon @bookstodon #

My kids are off to see this pop singer soon that I'd never heard of. However despite it not really being my bag at all, I am really quite enjoying this song, which I've found myself unconsciously quoting around the house...

@DJDarren @TheBreadmonkey I just can't get my head round the prices. Who pays them? When I was late teens I saw a lot of the big indie bands for about £8-10. Even the likes of Michael Jackson were not a whole lot more.
