My Italian lesson today: "gomma a terra" - a flat tire. But, as frequently happens in small town , all turned out fine. We were headed out to dinner last night when our car informed us that we had a tire emergency. We drove the rest of the 800m to the restaurant to figure out what to do over wine and pizza. The proprietor was happy to let us leave the car in the parking lot, because we decided it was a tomorrow problem and had a nice walk home on a pleasant spring evening. 1/3

This morning we called the gommista (tire guy) who agreed to meet us at the restaurant. We rode our bikes to the gym, then on to the restaurant where we discovered that the tires were "run flat," so that we could drive it safely to the shop, less than a mile away. Not surprisingly, we needed a new tire, which was mounted this morning. Leading to... 2/3

Today we celebrate our 30th anniversary with one of my favorite shots of us. We took it early one morning the first Christmas we spent in our house in . We had cranked up the music and something possessed me to set up the camera remote. I didn't get the film developed for several months, and we had by then hit a rough patch. I put it in a frame with the Thoreau quote: "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.” This picture got me through. 💕

@LikeItOrLumpIt Did you ever read Lewis Grizzard? He had a hilarious piece (or maybe it was one of his live bits) about discovering bidets when he went to Paris. He called it "The Magical French Fanny Fountain." You can find them in pretty much every Italian home.

Today is the traditional Thai New Year's, which is celebrated on April 13, but actually lasts for four days. It is celebrated with water fights. If you go out on the 13th, you can expect to be hit with water from hoses, water pistols or just bowls of water from a big drum. We were in Bangkok last year on this day and we were a little taken aback when people started squirting us at the restaurant. Now we're like "Bring it!" 🤣 Mai Khao Beach, Phuket, Thailand.
