Embedds are over. Youtube, Twitter, Instagram, or whatever links are all basically broken by default now. People using an ad blocker (YOU SHOULD TOO) for the most part see broken bullshit:

Screenshot that shit. Link directly to the item. Fuck their "embedding guidelines" they broke the Internet, they don't get to make the rules.

A embedded twitter link in an article just shows up as a "-(@)".

just realized i've had the mollywhite.net domain for over 10 years(!!)

related sneak peek into an upcoming piece: i firmly believe that if you're going to spend money on one thing online it should be a domain, particularly as online identity gets more fragmented. as platforms come and go, you can always find me there.

molly0xfff,
@molly0xfff@hachyderm.io avatar

@niclake ugh. there's been a squatter on mollywhite[.]com for ages — at least ten years, given i remember them being there when i ultimately bought the .net.

the bright side is it helped me realize that there isn't really much benefit to having a .com, except inasmuch as people default to that when they only remember part of the domain.

especially now with all the fun TLDs (molly.wiki!), .com is less of a dominant force IMO

@peblo i've been using namecheap for those ten years, meaning i haven't really checked out the competition. most important thing IMO is strong security

@hazelnot you can always redirect it in the meantime!

@cthos oh i'm right there with you.

anyway you just reminded me to check if i could get fartbag.lol back for the $2 intro price after letting it expire when i decided not to pay the $28 renewal fee

You guys, I'm still banned forever from Wikipedia (I can't even submit complaints about people harassing me), but Apple's back in my biography article defending toxic waste & calling me a liar. Can someone who is not banned please go report this & try to get the changes reverted?

"it's all stored locally" is not a panacea for these alarming privacy-invading products!

what exactly is stored locally? what data is extracted from that local data and sent to the company's servers? is that local data being backed somewhere?

molly0xfff,
@molly0xfff@hachyderm.io avatar

what additional risks are now being posed to people who share devices, whose devices might be accessed by others or compromised, or who might not realize these tools are running? what is the risk that the company might later change its decision on local storage?

molly0xfff,
@molly0xfff@hachyderm.io avatar

@eob the problem is that the marketing claims of "we store the data locally" don't seem to mean "we ONLY store the data locally"

I had such a great chat with @mike on his Dot Social podcast, where we talked about the future of the web and why I'm a web optimist, why everyone should be a blogger, digital ownership, and decentralized social media.

The full episode is available here https://about.flipboard.com/inside-flipboard/molly-white/ and on PeerTube/YouTube/the usual podcast feeds!

I am a human and I am completely stumped by this captcha.
Does that prove that I'm human?
Maybe saying I'm human is exactly the thing a machine would state.
Maybe having that self-reflection proves I'm human.
Maybe AI has seen this kind of rambling enough to generate a post about being human and frustrated by a captcha.
