lol, I was doing exactly the same, mostly because the gnome app for it (webapp-manager) does not do one thing I badly want : open all non-app links in the default browser and not on instances of itself. Also, I love the webkitgtk project and this allows me to give it an usage.
I will give a look at your project, I think is better contribute to it than have two (or more) projects doing the same 😜
Between the spam all over new and the down time I've spent most of my browsing now on Fedio. If someone can take over the maintenance and care, perhaps looking into why Mbin is doing a lot better. Could be just having someone regularly looking, or maybe there's a code difference that does a better job.
Even if Kbin.social can't be the dominate version, none of the *bins would be around if Ernest hadn't spearheading the move with his early software. He gave us a choice other than Lemmy, and I still like it in any variations. Hope his situations get better.
Health related, mental baggage last summer and last update was he having serious body health issues to resolve as well. Still having team is good, but it's just coincidence that he still want to make code less messy and... getting himself in messy situations both with mental health and physical. You never know what decision will be good in hindsight, because there is a lot of stories where creators are ditched after being successful. For ex. Disco Elysium after their success.
I won't give my thoughts on this myself as people who know the risks can say what is good or bad decision, myself I see potential and sad that the features I would really wish to see can't be suggested until bug fixing and workflow starts.
I really hope Ernest recovers and does what's best for his health, for it is a priority. I am also happy to know he is going to entrust the instance to someone who'll keep it going because I was worried that for the few days it's been, that it'd be the end of KBin. So much spam, so many bots and the errors were really showing the signs.
@Pamasich thanks so much for updating. I am a diehard kbin fan but I was mostly worried about Ernest's health and it's good to know he's communicating somewhere.
