RubberStuntBaby, to world in What is the Israeli settler movement?

They're doing an ethnic cleansing one "settlement" at a time. Israel is only a few gas chambers away from becoming the Nazis themselves. They already put Palestinians into 'ghettos' and are claiming they need lebensraum.

Never ever take the word of police and their spokesmen, at best they stretch the truth, at worst they create lies entirely to justify their murders

When they actively don't want to release the tape, you know it shows cops murdering people.

One of the big things that Israel needs to stop for peace that is problematic on their end.

Dmian,
@Dmian@lemmy.world avatar

And that the international community turns a blind eye to. What are we waiting to ask Israel to remove the illegal settlers? Nobody will, because everybody wants to be in good terms with Israel. That’s the sad truth.

wintermute_oregon,

The United states has for years. They said no and we left it at that.

Dmian,
@Dmian@lemmy.world avatar

That’s incredibly depressing.

wintermute_oregon,

I’m pro-Israel but they shouldn’t be building settlements on the occupied land.

It should be if they build settlements, we cut all funding. Period.

Dmian,
@Dmian@lemmy.world avatar

The settlements go against any accord or treaty signed previously in search of peace in the region. But with Netanyahu governing Israel, I don’t see them stopping anytime soon.

In my humble opinion, as long as terrorist attacks from Hamas and illegal settlements from Israeli settlers keep occurring, peace in the region is impossible.

wintermute_oregon,

The settlements also against the reason for keeping the land. The land was meant as a buffer to avoid invasions.

If you move people in. You’ve lost that buffer.

Limitless_screaming,
Limitless_screaming avatar

And of course now you need a new buffer... but it wouldn't harm anyone to move some people there, they'll just need a little more buffer.

wintermute_oregon,

That is my issue with the settlements. I defeats why they are occupying the land. If you want to annex it, just say so. Don’t pretend it’s for protection then populate it.

Limitless_screaming,
Limitless_screaming avatar

just say so

Say what? They're just protecting themselves. It's not like they're just terrorists trying to justify their terrorism, so that the support they receive from the US doesn't get questioned. It's a matter of life or death. existing in peace, or vanishing. Now tell the civilians to move into the cramped camps so we can bomb them the terrorists.

Substance_P,

“no” sounds like a solid stance then I guess. These settlements are considered illegal under international law, as they violate the Fourth Geneva Convention. That law which prohibits an occupying power from transferring its civilian population into the territory it occupies. The United States and have expressed concerns, mostly just concerns, the United Nations have passed several resolutions reaffirming their position, mostly in condemnation, but overall the stance from the US has been more lenient towards Israel’s settlement policies.

It certainly seems that these days there is a trend of not acknowledging human rights abuses anymore, it could be seen as late stage capitalism mixed with a deadly cocktail of politics/religion perhaps. This apathy from the west, will not serve humanity well in my opinion.

I mean, we sort of set up this fuck-fest despite Britain telling us it was a bad idea. But we were the Victors of the World™ so clearly we knew what we were doing (clears throat). Kind of like our useless embargo of Cuba, we made a decision and we're sticking with it, no matter how stupid or counterproductive it is, and there's a very vocal portion of the electorate which supports the move (mostly out of spite, which makes them that much more intractable).

Is the current war terrible? Sure. Nobody should be killing civilians or taking the hostage. Is the plight of the Palestinians real? Yeah, it is. Israel has been an absolute menace, because they can.

wintermute_oregon,

The embargo on Cuba is stupid at this point. It is more symbolic than anything. I have been to Cuba and it’s exactly what you’d expect a communist country to look like. Everyone is poor, and starving and the police/military are everywhere.

The situation needs to be dealt with once and for all. Either merge the land into Israel and merge the Palestinians in or give them their own country.

This current 'buffer" just doesn’t work anymore. The settlers should be booted out and we should refuse aid until they do.

I am pro-israel but they need to follow the rules like everyone else.

I get his point. I’ve seen Barnes and Noble feature banned books at the front of their store. It’s a good thing to have available, but it’s pretty standard for book stores to have banned books.

Barnes and Noble has a mystery lit section and there are still bookstores that specialize in mystery lit that do okay. I don’t think that is necessarily a business ender.

This hits a little close to home since my wife is an elected Precinct Committee Person or PCP.

One of her duties, since Oregon is a vote by mail state, is to monitor ballot drop off locations for any tampering or intimidation.

The last few elections I’ve gone with her, I wouldn’t dream of letting her do this alone in our climate.

Nothing has happened, since we’re in the bluest part of a blue state, but man, I could completely see it happening.

The FCC has made the comment process extremely difficult to navigate, but it looks like the hearing is on docket 23-293 (commenters, please correct me if I'm wrong). You should be able use the form here to place a comment on the proceeding. Use 23-293 in the proceedings field to bring it up for selection.
