Israel just bombed a tent city full of #refugees who fled North #Gaza for #Rafah on the #IDF's orders.

Horrifying photos show families frantically rummaging through the carnage for the limbs of their family members. I won't reproduce them here, but they can be found on the bird site from @gazanotifications

They are murdering poor people trapped in a concentration camp, in the places they were told to flee for safety. They are killing impoverished, innocent, starving Palestinians, mostly under 30, with nowhere else to go.

This brutality is unparalleled in my lifetime. All studies show that Israel is in a class of its own, outdoing the Dresden bombings by a landslide. Saying this is not antisemitic: it is your duty, whoever you are.

I am #Jewish: spiritually, scholarly, and Litvak Ashkenazi. It's not antisemitic for me, OR ANY NON-JEW to say. In fact, its every human's duty to call for this bloodshed to cease IMMEDIATELY, and to even call for this genocidal Zionist occupation to be dismantled before there is any more blood shed. Nothing keeps my heart beating like my Arab and Muslim comrades speaking out against this barabarism every day. All while facing the harshest consequences of anyone! This ugliness would quite literally drive me to kill myself if I didn't know so many people who are so brave.

I have been doing activism in Palestine since 2012, both boots-on-the-ground defense of protestors, and teaching programming. These are not antisemites; my Palestinian friends are as close to me as any others. And I have had 6 students murdered in Gaza in 120 days. All the others are starving, fleeing from tent city to tent city, trying to survive the most hellish circumstances of drone democide any people have ever witnessed in the history of humanity. Thats a simple fact now.

If you are a goy and claim to support this in our name, WE WILL REMEMBER. The vast majority of #Jews outside of Israel who are under 40 years old are anti-Zionists today. All the fastest growing Jewish organizations of the past decade are anti-Zionist. And we will not forget those who cheered on a 21st century #Holocaust while evoking the memory of our family members killed by Nazi #Germany. Especially not the #Germans, who have been by far the worst inciters and supporters of genocide outside of #Israel.

We need an immediate international #boycott, #divestment from, and #sanctions on Israel to stop this brutality immediately! #BDS

rml,

The images coming out of Gaza right now are the most horrifying I've seen in the last 130 days, which have certainly been the worst contemporary horrors I've witnessed in my life. They are dropping bomb after bomb on tent cities. Body parts everywhere, people trying to escape only for more bombs to land.

@rml Here’s my test for the whole mess: If you take religion completely out of the equation, is it still genocide? I don’t think anyone could deny that. Forcing people to flee to a “protected” area for safety, then carpet bombing the protected area is a massive crime against humanity. Full. Stop.

rml,

@JustChapman

sorry I don't understand, how would religion determine whether or not something is genocide? its genocide, plain and simple, with or without religious interests.

regardless, Zionism began as a secular movement. Religious Zionism was incredibly marginal until after 67, with the growth of Meir Kahane's movement, which is not made up of religious Jews, but rather far-right ultranationalists who are as Jewish as Donald Trump is Christian. This Third Temple shit is rooted in the narratives of evangelical christianity rather than Judaism. Judaism is a very formal religion with bodies of jurisprudence that determine the limits of interpretation of scripture. Religious Zionists simply disregards all of this and wings it on its own -- its really just a far right political movement, catering their ideas to christian fundamentalists who pump money into their genocide.

but the conflict is not first and foremost religious in any sense, excepting al-Aqsa. a quarter of all Palestinians are Christians. Zionists occupy al-Aqsa first and foremost to harrass Palestinians. The ambitions of the centuries old institutions of Judaism are not in conflict with Islam or al-Aqsa is any serious way. Its "Israel"'s project of ethnic cleansing that is.

cakeisnotalie,

@rml @JustChapman he is trying to say "even if you're a massive racist and hate Muslims, just ask yourself 'if the Palestinians were instead Blond, blue-eyed Christians, would you consider what Israel is doing to them genocide'" as a way of trying to appeal to the white people who cannot be fucked to cared about brown lives.

The problem is that they cannot be fucked to care because they are supremacist pieces of shit, and they are NEVER going to be capable of humanizing people unlike themselves. We (Western nations allied with Israel) are the bad guys. And the rest of the world needs to stop us right now, because Palestine is only the beginning. It is the litmus test to see whet we can get away with. We MUST NOT be allowed to get away with the genocide of the Palestinians, and nothing anyone says is going to be enough to ever change the minds of the supremacists among us who are supporting this atrocity.

Trying to win over white minds on this is useless. It is everyone else that needs to be won over. Because only they are willing to understand the existential necessity of stopping Western imperialism before we kill even more.

@rml @cakeisnotalie Yes, sorry. I was agreeing with you. I’ve heard/read others on and offline trying to make this a religious issue. It’s not and should not be discussed in this context. These are human beings, full stop. The killing must cease!

    My friends and their families have been killed and are being killed, there is nothing acceptable about this, it is totally psychotic genocidaire behavior -- not the marketplace of ideas!

    Alon,
    @Alon@mastodon.social avatar

    @rml You may be Jewish, but you traffic in casual Nazi rhetoric when you even say "the Dresden bombings." The bombings killed 15,000-20,000 people, not even the biggest among the Allied bombings of Germany, but Nazi propaganda turned them into something much larger, and Holocaust deniers love to overblow the death toll to make the Nazis into victims. To the historically literate, "more dead than Dresden" (over months and not days, on four times the population) is not terribly interesting.

    rml,

    @Alon you are a fascist pig

    Also, to paraphrase the meme,

    I'm on your side in this, and have lived in the Arab and Muslim World, extensively. War crimes in Israel had me renounce the religion of my birth, many decades ago. Likely before you were born.

    You are spot-on.

    Except for your use of the word "goy" which triggered childhood memories of Jewish racism.

    Please remember that the word "goy" is a slur. Israelis refer to Palestinians as "goyim" in their racist discourse.

    Please do not use this supremacist word.

    @rml

    rml, (edited )

    @jinnijoon I strongly disagree with the idea that goy is a slur, in Yiddish communities in particular. I'm also deeply opposed to the Isralien bastardization of Hebrew. As you may be aware, goyim is the translation in scripture for "nations", and goy, the profane. In the VaYole Moshe, which I consider to be perhaps the greatest work of Holocaust theology, Teitelbaum embarks on a deep exegesis of the Jew's relation to "goyim"/nations historically, to demonstrate Judaism's contrast to goyim. Which isn't to say a Jew isn't goyim, but that we are goyim in our average-everyday profane existence, as Americans, or Lithiunians, or Iraqis, etc. The point being that, as a Jew, one is exhilic, devoid of a nation or national pride, and part of the major folly of zionism is that they are absolute goyishe kopf: profane and disquiet, unable to submit with G-d's will. And maintaining a constant distance from the nation I belong to is a very important value to me.

    But even at the vulgar level, I honestly think its fine; its absurd to think "gringo" or "bule" are words of hate, and yiddish deployments of goy occupy that same space. Israliens call everyone whose not a zionist goy. They call me goy, despite the fact that I'm more observant that most of them. I call Zionists goy. Likewise, Chasidim call everyone who isn't frum goy.

    But Zionists are far worse to Palestinians, typically calling them "kushi" today. That is a slur, goy is just vulgar street slang that honestly occupies an pretty innocent place in Yiddishkeit.

    jinnijoon,
    @jinnijoon@mastodon.social avatar

    I cannot speak to this on an academic level. I can only say that the word "goy" is mostly spoken with hatred by Jews (that I have witnessed) whereas gentile is the acceptable English version. It is in no way parallel to gringo or güero (I am not familiar with bule) and I did much of my research in México and do speak Spanish.

    I can assure you that many reactions to the word will not be dissimilar from my own though I do appreciate your taking the time to explain, thank you.

    @rml

    rml,

    @jinnijoon are you Jewish? I don't know how Israliens use it, but I can promise you that in the history of Jewish culture, which is a religion that explicitly makes us the responsible/guilty party for all the world's woes which we're chargeed with repairing and is where Jewish self-effacing humor comes from (along with being the lead scapegoat minority in Europe for 2 millenia), goy has never been a slur.

    The Aryan Nationalist community, on the other hand, does claim that goy is supremacist and racial slur and they are always campaigning to get it banned... that is the only place where I've ever heard charges of goyim being an insidious slur.

    jinnijoon,
    @jinnijoon@mastodon.social avatar

    Jewish on all sides. No one in my immediate or extended family ever used the word, thankfully.

    In cultural gatherings, I did hear the word, and it was never not pejorative.

    In Wikipedia, there is an entire section about goy as a slur with a few descriptive expressions from the Yiddish.

    I do not use slurs, ever. And if there is a question of a group taking offense from a stereotype, I will not use the word.

    Do not lump me with white supremacists. That's just offensive.

    @rml

    rml,
    jinnijoon,
    @jinnijoon@mastodon.social avatar

    From Wikipedia:

    Nahma Nadich, deputy director of the Jewish Community Relations of Greater Boston writes:

    "I definitely see goy as a slur — seldom used as a compliment, and never used in the presence of a non-Jew" adding "That's a good litmus test: if you wouldn't use a word in the presence of someone you're describing, good chance it's offensive."

    But if you want to double down on your right to freely use a word offensive to so many, you do you.

    Don't be surprised by the result.

    @rml

    rml,

    @jinnijoon Jews shying away from using "goy" around goyim honestly seems absurd from my experience. Even my frum landlords in NYC would call me goy to my face. Gentile is a Latin word that is exogenous to the Jewish community.

    And, of course, Central Asians and even the small population of South Asian Jews. Your point is a good one. I have mourned the loss of the diaspora for decades. Israel turned thriving, diverse, singular communities into a sort of homogeneous mush in which the Europeans reigned.

    Yemeni Jews were forbidden from listening to music in Arabic with the first wave of immigration. They lost their language, music, social net, and culture. Absolutely tragic.

    @GhostOnTheHalfShell @rml

    rml,

    @jinnijoon @GhostOnTheHalfShell

    Its interesting to note that even the notion of the "Jewish diaspora" is more or less a Zionist fabrication as well. Even "Eretz Yisrael" doesn't appear iuntil the late 19th century, hailing from the nascent Zionist movement; see Shlomo Sand's "The Invention of the Land of Israel" and "Invention of the Jewish People" if you're interested

    cakeisnotalie,

    @perfect_brains @rml I hope atrocity you cheer on happening to Palestinians happens to you tenfold, you psychopathic Zionist monster. Fuck you. Fuck everything you believe in. You are one sick, racist piece of shit.
