@ilumium@mozilla Do smart refrigerators collect information on our sexual activity? How about that new toaster? Does the vacuum cleaner analyze hair follicles for DNA? What about that innocent looking electric toothbrush? Are you being profiled by that squishy dog toy?
@ilumium@mozilla The more I hear about glitzy, gadget laden newer cars, the more I like my "seasoned", "dumb", simple, reliable, inexpensive-to-fix, older cars.
@ilumium@mozilla GDPR is usually pretty critical of the consentless collection of data that isn't required to provide the service... so is this actually legal?
@Jakra Good question. But remember that the #car maker as data processor doesn't need to be the one who collects the data. All they need is a unique #identifier to create a profile and then "enrich" it with personal data they buy from other sources.
Combine this with constant location #surveillance, driving habits, and the analysis of conversations held inside the car and this #profiling might just be worth more than the companies make by selling cars.
@Rush There’s gotta be someone figuring out how to find the networking equipment in various makes and models of cars so that owners can, you know, hit it with a hammer.
Alternatively I wonder if I can get the dealership to do that for me in exchange for a little extra $$$
