hankg,

I mean this was the inevitable outcome. I hate that my messaging is tied to specific platforms like Apple or Facebook. Tech savvy people like me can find some niche workaround but it will take government regulation to make that available to the masses.

@hankg Two services:

  • Signal
  • WhatsApp

Your messaging is only tied to a specific ecosystem if you want it to be.

hankg,

@gme WhatsApp is just Facebook so essentially the same thing. Signal is a potential option but niche too.

@hankg Have you even used it? Recently? (Signal)

It's far from niche. It's a helluva lot more mainstream than "Matrix" or even Telegram.

Also, WhatsApp may be "Facebook" but it's the #1 messaging app around the World.

hankg,

@gme I’ve never used it since I don’t want to give them my phone number. It is more mainstream than Matrix but not Telegram. As to WeChat, I don’t see the point in joining Facebook’s data lake from another vector since I’m already on Messenger when I’d prefer not to be. www.businessofapps.com/data/me…
