@Faintdreams Oooh, that’s a tough ask. The only one I can think of is Espedair Street by Iain Banks. It’s about an aging Scottish rock star with the mystery being what happened to his band and the romance being if he can reconnect with his first girlfriend from before he was famous. One of my favourite books but I think it falls outside your date range.
