@CupofDalek This is interesting... but what is the #Viverse exactly?
I feel I'm a bit out of the loop here.
Is it HTC:s social VR platform similar to #VRChat but only for #Vive users?
Browsing their website most of it is not in English but Chinese or Japanese.
@CupofDalek Oh no... it's their own "metaverse" but with digital ownership via NFTs... :AngeryCat:
They'll end up just getting blocked on most fediverse and mastodon servers promoting that crap.
@CupofDalek I clicked through and joined it in desktop mode in WebGL as a guest and the first thing I saw was Ads for some "fresh minting" of dog NFTs... :AAAAAA:
@cragsand oh hmmm Ill have to look at that, sounds gross! But maybe that was limited to someones world? (From what I saw, I guess anyone can upload worlds?, not sure)
@CupofDalek I'm all for more social VR platforms but hopping on the NFT and crypto train is a huge big nope - NFT - NO FUCKING THANKS - for me.
Monetization for creations is good, like VRChat implemented a currency system to help creators. It has to be done respectfully though with actual legit business practices that do benefit creators.
Not wasteful grifts that just lines the pockets of crypto hodlers who are gonna rugpull and disappear at the first chance they can.
Nanana I agree dont get me wrong, but man there is 100% a correct way to implement crypto into an ecosystem without GREED. These platforms just havent done it lmao
I mean VRChat's vbucks are tokenized currency too, just like crypto
Pros:
More stable value
Cons:
Locked into platform
Not transferable
Creators loose out on around half of its value
Projects doing their own token is a bad idea, but if they implemented say Polygon?
Super low transaction fees, no financial lock in. 🎇
@CupofDalek Using cryptography for virtual currency is fine. When I say "crypto" I mean using proof-of-work (waste of energy) or proof-of-stake (profit for thieves) blockchains in distributed ledgers.
Trust-less systems only benefit criminals. The argument that they're trust-less in the first place is an oxymoron as any large enough movement can 51% attack or fork.
