🌞 Good morning ! This is GBH bringing you the world from *. It's 57F at Logan Airport and visibility is 10mi.

The Pacers won over the Knicks and will head to Boston to face the Celtics.

706 people named Kyle got together in Kyle, TX...and it still wasn't enough to set a world record. Better luck next time, Kyles.

The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court is seeking arrest warrants for Israeli and Hamas leaders, including Netanyahu.

But while I am here: I listened with great interest to this discussion about the housing crisis in Massachusetts, and why it is so much more intense here than, say, Seattle. For your delectation: https://www.wgbh.org/news/local/2024-05-17/the-average-boston-renter-spends-47-of-their-income-on-housing-in-seattle-its-28-why

@gbhnews the Kyles are very disorganized. I know a Kyle who went to the previous Kyle gathering and said it was so chaotic he would not go back. You don't attract many Kyles with hours-long lines at the beer tent.

@gbhnews The missing piece people don't talk about but should is transportation. It matters less how many miles away you are from where you work than how long it takes you to get there. How fast, reliable, frequent & affordable are public transit options? Is there safe biking infrastructure? If you're forced to drive, how bad is the traffic?

@FramDist2 So important in our region where "as the crow flies distance" means absolutely nothing about how long it takes you to get there!

@gbhnews Hub-and-spoke public transportation like Boston's instead of a grid also really limits where you can live if you want to take public transit to work. Trains running once every 2 hours off peak limits real-world usability for people outside the urban core. And so on.
If you could live 25 miles out with train service running twice an hour even on weekends that took 30 mins to the city, housing demand would be more spread out.
We are not serious about needed infrastructure.
