Anyone else here played Venice 2089?

So this was a real exploration-type game that was centered around a future version of Venice, Italy alongside a sizable variety of characters, both locals and tourists, and of which both features themes of surveillance and climate change all in a uniquely-organic, kind of goofy style of 2.5D gameplay. It's somewhat obscure, yet accessible enough, and as of now, it's essentially complete as a video game itself since October last year.

For me, its art style got me hooked on an earlier demo version of it way back in 2021 and even got its devs in an e-mail interview for an issue of a small magazine of mine around that same time.

What else are your thoughts on this, Kbin rafteers?

Haven't heard about it, but I just looked it up, pretty cool that you got the devs for an interview. Any interesting tidbits from that?

One such factoid came from the design and look of its architecture: while cartoony in a sense, it evokes the actual city's colorful past and present, from the walls, to the streets, to the windows, down to the gang-like graffiti, whilst being slightly mired against the marks of the future's rising sea levels. The devs even know it and are proud of their culture shining throughout this entire game.

Another came from the characters themselves: Nova (the main character, a bored modern teenage girl with a futuristic hoverboard and a note-shaped bot for a friend)'s grandfather is a veteran, but of memes and internet culture of the 2010s, sometimes cracking then-relevant jokes and quips, and yet seems to be a caring-enough figure for the former; Cecilia, meanwhile, as they put it, is quite strange yet funny for such a tourist character of her.

The last tidbit is, of course, the most thought-provoking: Its overarching story. As the dev who replied to me on said interview put it:

We want to convey a bittersweet story that shows Venice getting almost destroyed by the effects of global warming and where the city has been kind of forgotten by outsiders. At the same time, we want to create this “human” future where some people (even if not that many) want to live there and are willing to fight for their right to do so.
