Why do so many Lemmy posts end with the word rule? rule
The thing i said in the title

snailwizard, There are a lot of communities across the fediverse based off of r/196, where the only rule is that you have to post something before leaving. I ended up blocking most of those communities because of the spam.
loke, I accidentally subscribed to it, and since I get a 500 error every time I try to visit it (problem with fedia.io I think) I cannot unsubscribe.
It's kind of annoying.
Soullioness, I personally blocked those communities. They just took up too much of my feed with low quality content.
Roundcat, The front page is still very broken here on Lemmy and kbin. If a community is very active, it will show you nearly every post from that community. Depending on what time of day I log on, all the posts will be in German.
LostCause, 196, I like that community and seen a lot of fun stuff there, but I can see how it could be too spammy for some.
mrnotoriousman, Content has been slowly increasing but my first few days were 99% 196 and German posts until I blocked those communities haha
Mewtwo, The 196 and 195 communities have only 1 rule. If you visit the community, you must post.
Rhoeri, There’s nothing to stop anyone from not doing it.
zalack, Yes there is. That would be against the rules. Duh.
AmidFuror, Yep. That's a sure way to get your post removed!
Willer, Rule
wetnoodle, it’s a trend from the community 196@lemmy.blahaj.zone idk why it’s spreading other than that is a very quickly growing community
primul, first community i’ve blocked here since making my account. god, that spam, ugh…
Rhoeri, (edited ) Same. 196 was giving me cringe headaches.
lp0101, It’s got one good meme for every 10 shit ones, so every time I’m about to block it I reconsider

some_guy, Thanks! This was the info that I needed to block them myself. First block on Lemmy.
wetnoodle, also I did not link that right idk how to link properly yet 😕
themadcodger, Across the fediverse if you stick an @ in front of the 196 it'll work. Lemmy has a thing where they do an ! instead, but that's specifically their thing.
Works with usernames too.
DevCat, The rule in 196 is that once you’ve visited, you must post before leaving. Thus, the title suffix “rule”.
Monkeyhog, I’d like to see them make me. Fuck them and their “rule”
NotAPenguin, It's just for fun buddy
zalack, But I can make you lose the game.
yunggwailo, got a real badass over here lol
EnglishMobster, (Psst... a lot of people broke the rule.)
It was also supposed to only apply if you explicitly went to the subreddit. If you just saw a post in your feed you didn't have to make a post yourself.
But the rule makes the community very very active in a place where there's otherwise not much activity.
EnglishMobster, /r/196 was a popular sub on Reddit, about 500k subscribers. A lot of them were dedicated users who were very active and had recognizable usernames.
196 was one of the first major subs to shut down and point everyone to the fediverse. It helps that 196 was very LGBTQ-friendly and Blahaj.zone is also very explicitly LGBTQ-friendly, so it was a good match.
196 creates a lot of content because their "rule" was anytime you visited the sub you had to leave an image, whether it was a repost or not. This also works very well for a nascent fediverse where not a lot of OC is being made yet.
Thus 196 was pretty much in the perfect position to become one of the biggest places on the fediverse.
atocci, I think they're still down? Not sure, can't check any more. They were my favorite subreddit, so I've been submitting a few posts to the community here also.
EnglishMobster, Yes, they are still in restricted (read-only) mode and redirecting here.
