Thinking of reanimating my personal "blog", but as a #digitalgarden. I've got the domain and am using #wordpress for my business website. But is there anything that's more lightweight that anyone can recommend? I've looked at #obsidianpublish but don't really want to spend that much for hosting. TIA! #obsidian

@birv2 crazy thought. You could export markdown notes from Obsidian to any static site generator like Jekyll

@mlevison Thanks for the suggestion. I looked at a while ago, and I would have to upgrade my hosting plan, use a VPS, reinstall the site, and do some other heavy lifting that I wasn't inclined to do.
So I basically just went with #classicpress because I'm fairly familiar with old school WP. Simplest solution for me. But Jekyll definitely intrigued me. Thanks for asking!

@birv2 I'm using Hugo, a tool that generates static HTML from Markdown files.
My website is in a repo on GitHub and I've copied a pipeline that generates and publishes the website on every commit. I'm familiar with Git, Markdown and to a certain extent Go templating, although you don't need that to use Hugo.
Very much personal preference and YMMV. I find it simple and pleasing to use.
Incidentally my blog is also rather a digital garden, up to even mixing language between sections. 😅

@mforester Never heard of Hugo, but I'll check it out! I love Markdown, but have very little experience with Github. Wondering if there's a way to go from to publishing w/o obsidianpublish. Thanks for the reco!

@birv2 @mforester GitHub is simple to use. Would happily spend a few minutes in zoom with you if that would help

@mlevison @mforester I'm now committed to classicpress for the time being. But if that ever changes, I'll be happy to take you up on your generous offer of helping me with github. Thanks!

@birv2 @mforester from the agile community over the years I’ve learned always offer to help others
