Socsa,

Revenge for what exactly? What have liberals actually done to Trump supporters besides vote against him?

mo_ztt,
@mo_ztt@lemmy.world avatar

They tried to prosecute him. In MAGA world, that demands an escalation in kind to attack (“defend”) against the prosecution; the truth or falsehood of the accusation doesn’t matter. They also think Biden stole the election, although as before, they don’t really care in an objective sense whether that’s actually factually true. They believe it wholeheartedly and that’s all they care about.

There’s also a fiction that “they” are trying to put kitty litter in your classrooms and tell your kids to pretend to be cats and pee in the litterbox, or allow transgender people into women’s bathrooms because someone “became transgender” for that exact purpose, or other weird and outlandish things, but I don’t think those are really getting traction as much as they’d like them to. I think it’s mainly a standard sociopath pattern of “I did an illegal thing” -> “You’re reacting as if it’s illegal” -> “My god how could you make that wild accusation and be an enemy to me”.

tacosplease,

Really feels like MAGA voters themselves are a threat to America. I don’t say that lightly and am willing to be persuaded.

If it really is the case… What do we do about them? They don’t want to be educated on the issues and are immune to shame. What’s left to do?

Economic solutions are preferable to more aggressive options. Any ideas?

Boozilla,

“Put them in camps before they put us in camps” is probably the tactically smart if ethically questionable answer.

Mo9000,

You’re just feeling this now…?

mo_ztt,
@mo_ztt@lemmy.world avatar

On Tyranny represents a pretty good guidebook for concrete specific things you can do, well informed by historical research. This interview has a slight introduction to a couple of the main recommendations and the reasons for them.

DogMuffins,

I have some great ideas: improve education, reduce inequality, introduce preferential voting.

Seriously though, these problems are occuring the world over. I’m not an anthropologist but IMO the root cause is income inequality. Basically the working class are increasingly dissatisfied and the frustration manifests in very strange ways. There’s no fix for this other than societal collapse as a result of economic, environmental, or societal unrest. This part of the cycle will probably take 300 years or so, depending on the whole climate change thing.

Powerpoint,

Fascists are a problem, yes

Donut,

The word cloud had been published by The Daily Mail, which said it had polled 1,000 likely voters, asking them to describe in one word what President Joe Biden and Trump each want from a second term.

I believe Cheeto Mussolini should be in prison, but they asked voters what they think that Biden/Trump would want from another term.

billwashere,

It also has mucho Biden which literally translates into “a lot Biden” so he’s an idiot just like the people taking the poll. They likely thought it was “macho” Biden which makes both even more idiotic.

Plavatos, (edited )

The Allies forced the German civilians to dig graves for the concentration camps so they could see the inhumanity their complacency and tacit approval caused. I’ve never appreciated my history classes more and I’m terribly sorry for the schools and children that are performing historical revisionism to well documented events.

Also, I went to the gatewaypundit site TFG linked to and read some comments. One commenter suggesting someone who disagreed commit suicide (and of course they knew how to bypass filters, so it’s a tactic they use often). Folks are still suggesting the election was stolen then with the same breath saying to circle the ballot processing centers and not let vans through. The cognitive dissonance for these self-titled “critical thinkers” is beyond scary.

Edit: wanted to fact check my memory, here’s a photo. https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/119d4c7f-6a94-435a-9a8f-d956b1199f6f.jpeg

There are numerous accounts that the German population was forced to witness and clean up the mess they caused by their inaction and ignorance. It reminds me of those who avoid politics or say both sides are the same, that’s who allows concentration camps to happen.

mo_ztt,
@mo_ztt@lemmy.world avatar

And, the overwhelmingly dominant reaction the German civilians had in the destruction that was the aftermath of the war, was self-pity and resentment towards their enemies (“how could the allies be so cruel to us, we didn’t do anything”). In fairness, their conditions were very hard (starvation, disease, prostitution, desperation) but there was effectively no recognition at all of any responsibility on the German side for what was “happening to them”. Germany 1945 goes into a lot of the harrowing details and the German people’s reaction to them.

TL;DR get ready for the Trump rank-and-file to never acknowledge responsibility for anything, no matter how badly it plays out.

bmsok,

At my US high school we spent two days in mandatory silence walking around the classroom viewing these types of Holocaust pictures and reading descriptions of the images.

We spent the rest of the lesson arc discussing and unpacking the atrocities and horror of radicalization, hatred, ignorance, and war as a group. It was a surreal experience.

We had a similar experience in US history with slavery and the Civil Rights movement.

thisbenzingring,

How did they cover the Trail of Tears or the Red Cloud War?

winterayars,

It’s absolutely tragic that, at the rate we’re going, when the final survivors die off the denialists are going to take over. Knowledge of what happened is already poor today, in a couple decades it’s gonna be bad. I wish we would push back against the ignorance more but it seems it requires a huge amount of effort.

systemglitch,

Won’t lie, some dark part of me wants to see this happen just to see what happens.

GardenVarietyAnxiety,

Stfu with that shit…

The I told ya so’s would be epic though. 🤐

HubertManne,

I would prefer to catch fictional movie adaptation thank you very much. I like boring. boring is good.

billwashere,

I too love some good chaos but this shit isn’t that. This is more like pointing a loaded pistol at your face and wondering what will happen if you pull the trigger. This chucklefuck will destroy everything because he’s too stupid and narcissistic to know that he’s likely destroying the very thing that provides him the thing he wants most, power, money, and respect.

paddirn,

Anybody that can possibly vote for him knowing what he’s already done and what he’s planning on doing need to have their voting rights stripped away. If you’re trying plunge the US into a dictatorship, you shouldn’t be able to participate in the democratic process anymore, your opinion doesn’t count for anything, you’re guilty of supporting insurrection.

Hazzia,

Agreed. If you support a form of government that doesn’t care about the voice of the people, you don’t deserve to have your own voice matter.

ThePantser,
@ThePantser@lemmy.world avatar

Good thing records are kept for who everyone votes for we can easily round them all up. /s let’s not stoop to their level.

HubertManne,
HubertManne avatar

Its crazy how they think they are in despite the fact that over and over no one is protected by being his guy and often times quite the opposite. If it comes to pass they are more likely to be eating the shit that they sow than average although there will be plenty of shit to go round.

Masterblaster,

some people say violence is never the answer. those people are the first to be rounded up.

HubertManne,

me. me.

YoBuckStopsHere,
@YoBuckStopsHere@lemmy.world avatar

The Palestinians chose violence over diplomacy, it didn’t work out for them. Violence is never the answer, but it must be an option. Diplomacy is always the right answer. If a war is on the horizon that diplomacy may mean allies. Never fight a war alone, a large alliance could open the path to peace if done early enough.

Asafum,

Didn’t the Palestinians try diplomacy for decades?

Klear,

AFAIK it was always diplomacy mixed with a lot of violence. The situation there is a clusterfuck. Always have been.

Socsa, (edited )

Right, there is a fairly large body of philosophy which asks the question “when is violence justified?” and a big part of that is “don’t throw away lives recklessly for no purpose.” It doesn’t matter how “right” Hamas is, there is no realistic path by which violence can possibly achieve their goal of liberation. Their view of the world is warped by their religious views which hold that a god will intervene on their behalf if they martyr themselves piously. This is quite simply delusional and colors their role in justice seeking in a way many people refuse to acknowledge.

There is a simple path to ending this conflict, but it routes through a form of secularism which is not currently possible.

henfredemars,

My folks: maybe a dictator is what we need.

… my has the educational system failed you. Or perhaps you don’t understand the meaning of words? Did those years of leaded gasoline get to you? I’m dumbfounded.

800XL,

Gross. I’m sorry ☹️

Blackout,

They are brainwashed. I got a cold for the 2nd time this season. My dad: well you shouldn't have gotten the flu shot. My response in front of the whole family: I thought you didn't go to college let alone medical school. How did you have the time with all the television you watch?

henfredemars,

Indeed. I’ve been trying to push them away from watching so much Fox News and actually picking up a book on these topics. I’ve seen the stuff they watch, and it’s all garbage. Of course they are going to think crazy things if everything they are consuming is crazy.

It’s a real shame. I can’t completely separate from these people, but I’ve lost friends over such ridiculous claims. It’s a shame.

Asafum,

Remember if you ever mention communism it’s “DiCtAtOrS KiLlEd PeOpLe!” But if it’s Trump dictatorship then suddenly it’s ok.

I hate these people.

BestBouclettes,

They would be hurting the right people this time around

Rapidcreek,

What will it take for the “MSM” to say straight out that the man is mentally unbalanced?

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

The media wants a horse race because that’s how they make money. It can’t be a horse race when one of the two candidates is a deranged, babbling moron.

krashmo,

Sure it can. You’re watching it happen right now.

Australis13,

I doubt that they ever will.

NounsAndWords,

He’s riling up a pre-enraged group to outright accept him as a dictator. The water is muddied. He is talking about becoming a dictator and he has not been disqualified from office.

It’s nothing good, but I don’t think I would call it ‘unbalanced’ to set the stage for a dictatorship when your stated goal is to become a literal dictator.

beebarfbadger,

and he has not been disqualified from office

He has very much been disqualified from office, but like when Obama’s pick for the supreme court was just blatantly ignored with the most thinly veiled excuses, the people in charge of executing the respective laws instead choose to bend over for the guy who has blackmailing material on them and/or promises them even more massive tax cuts, profits and power.

NounsAndWords,

And if he’s somehow voted back in, he will be equally disqualified as those Justices.

…which is to say not for any practical purposes, which is exactly the problem in the first place. He should be but at this point he is not.
