2023 was the year I started watching "television" again, and I liked an AWFUL lot of what I saw. But I want ALL the #Emmys to go to #TheLastOfUs. On the surface it felt like Not My Thing (I dislike both action and horror in my teevee), and I only watched it at all because it was filmed here. But it instead turned out to be the story of a developing non-romantic relationship within the most fully realized post-apocalyptic universe I've seen on screen (and neither that scary nor that action-y). /1
And if I can't get my wish on that (and let's be real, this was also the year of the last season of #Succession, which was also very good, so I suspect the number of #Emmys that are up for grabs are limited), I at LEAST want the third episode of #TheLastOfUs to get every single Emmy that IT is nominated for. Because distilling the show's core themes down to its basics by focusing on a different relationship was so genius, and the realization of that relationship was so gorgeously done. /2
I honestly think absolutely everyone should watch at least that episode--it's just that good (and it's self-contained enough to be enjoyed nearly to its fullest without ever watching any others). So if you decided to skip #TheLastOfUs, that's your prerogative, but I hope you'll consider at least getting your hands on and watching season one episode three (apart from about twenty seconds it's not scary at all, and it gives you a taste of how good the show is without having to invest). /3fin
@HannahCelsius Episode 2 is a LOT to get through if you dislike horror, but it's as bad as that gets, so if you can get through that, there's only one future episode that even comes close. (This is because it's not actually a show about zombies--go figure!) I definitely had to watch episode 2 through my fingers, though, and afterwards I said to my partner that I wasn't sure I was going to stick around for the whole thing. 😆 (I'm glad I did!)
