@inquiline it’s fucked up, treating sentient beings as machines, mere objects. Of course we do it all the time with other humans as well. It’s how we get into wars and other depravities in the first place. We forget that they have experiences and feelings and want to be happy just like we do.
@inquiline totally bound up. Horses, donkeys, camels, elephants, dogs, pigeons, dolphins, sea lions, even pigs and rats. And these are just animals enlisted for their labor in actual warcraft.
@impermanen_ Looks interesting, thanks. I read some about the US military's engagement with marine mammals for the last book. While I'm also wary of buying into many of the anthropomorphic things we project onto dolphins, say, it also seems really twisted to look at a dolphin and think "this is an ideal template to help me build a better torpedo" (let alone "I shall animate a dead juvenile to test my theory of sonar"). History of science (not only military science) is so violent.
