What's going on with Villach 🇦🇹 - Tarvisio Boscoverde 🇮🇹

Just 2 Railjet, 2 regional and 1 Nightjet a day? 🤔

I recall this used to be better. Are there engineering works somewhere messing this up?

slideman,

@jon
There was a strange incident when I crossed A->I on 24-25 July on NJ. The train terminated at Villach c. 07:00, said to be because of weather damage. But we were able to continue by the next available Villach-Venice train at 10:50, which ran on time. There had indeed been a storm, but it seemed strange that a problem big enough to terminate and empty the train and hire some replacement buses could be completely fixed in under 4 hours.
MY return NJ on 1-2 Aug ran as planned.

@slideman ÖBB are the absolute masters of organising buses at short notice. I have had them do it with 1 hour notice before. But the problem might have been more complex than just the storm though (could have been rolling stock in the wrong place for example)

slideman,

@jon
We must have cleaned Villach out of buses, because I couldn’t get on one, and there weren’t any more. If there were something other than weather damage, why wouldn’t they say? They paid compensation for arrival delayed by 5h 40m.

@richtigabgefahren there used to be this Micotra regional train I think 5x a day. What happened to that?

@richtigabgefahren I somehow had a recollection it was once better. Oh well. I’m going to have to cycle in the semi dark then!

    @ale_gianlu only that 09:45 one wasn’t in my screenshot. But why are Micotra regional trains not showing in DB Reiseauskunft?

    @ale_gianlu Researching further: I think Trenitalia has the wrong data for the regional trains there. But how that error has occurred I don’t know.

    @jon I remember catching a train not very far from there, some considerable time ago now.

    We'd walked over the hill from Mallnitz to Böckstein (OK, so we cheated, we took the cable car up) and wanted to catch the train back through the tunnel.

    "That'll be the so-and-so" the guy said.

    "What about the such-and-such" we asked, in respect of the earlier timetabled train - why would we want to wait an extra half hour?

    "That one's coming from Turkey, and when last heard of was running four hours late."

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    @TimWardCam maybe that’s an idea - could I use a cablecar somewhere 🤔

    TimWardCam,
    @TimWardCam@c.im avatar

    @jon Hmm. I don't actually know of any cable cars that cross borders. Though it's entirely likely that there is one - in the alps they build where there's snow and money, I doubt they care much about borders.

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    @TimWardCam I have a bike. So cable car up then bike down the other side…

    @jon 😂 🤣 😂 🤣 😂
    That particular footpath was indeed a Roman wine trading route, and some of the original paving is still there, but it was not built to Roman-road-on-the-flat standards, and whilst you might get across with a donkey (what we assume was originally used) I don't think you'd manage it on a bike. And I speak as one who rides off road for preference.

    martincampbell2,

    @TimWardCam @jon There's the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing from Zermatt, CH to Breuil-Cervinia, IT. https://matterhornalpinecrossing.com/en

    martincampbell2,

    @TimWardCam @jon Train to Zermatt, Matterhorn Alpine Crossing to Breuil-Cervinia, then 30km downhill to Châtillon-Saint-Vincent.

    martincampbell2,

    @TimWardCam @jon I've found another cross-border cablecar route. Courmayeur, IT to Chamonix Mont-Blanc, FR

    @martincampbell2 @TimWardCam I’m not starting campaigns on these! 😜
