As someone working in , it will never cease to amaze me how easy it is for people to misunderstand each other when the word "mode" enters the discussion.
(To be fair, the proper definition of "mode" in is far from obvious and/or trivial.)

@j_bertolotti hmm for a waveguiding optics-guy like me, a mode is a type of a wave, a solution given by the M. equations (but I will appreciate my narrow view expanded) 🤔

So yes, it is very, very easy to cause a misunderstanding.
