@Doug73 i’m looking for something to replace my soon to probably be no longer receiving updates Apple TV. The last time I used a Firestick half of my apps did not play nice with voice view and the Roku TTS drives me crazy.
@evilcookies98@Doug73 I can't get roku tts to work on my tv. I suspect that because my region is set to Canada, it can't speak both languages so it just doesn't speak at all. there is not even an option to turn it on in the settings menu. Might try setting my region to US and see if that works but I need eyes to do that.
@evilcookies98 I have one. it is a bit slow, but that isn't unusual, as amazon tv dongles are slow too. they all don't have enough ram, storage, or good enough processers. other than that, it isn't bad.
@jamminjerry I just need some thing that is going to liberate me from being stuck watching TV on my phone. I have an Apple TV, but I’m probably going to have to replace it very soon. It’s the HD model, which means Lord only knows when they’re going to stop updating it.
@evilcookies98 I should hook my cromecast with google tv up to my 55 inch tv that is in the living room. the screen saver is pictures of our boys. so they could see there pictures on the big screen. lol.
@krishnajariwala well, 30 bucks for that as compared to 130 bucks for an Apple TV, plus the fact I’m seriously about to ditch Apple entirely. Am I going to have a hard time? I would rather not break it within the first five seconds.
@evilcookies98@krishnajariwala you shouldn't have a hard time with it. I might still have my podcast where I did an unboxing, and first time set up of one. let me look.
@evilcookies98@krishnajariwala let me know if that helps you out. keep in mind, the only thing I usually edit out of my podcasts are my passwords. I don't edit out mistakes I made as people can learn from those.
@evilcookies98@krishnajariwala I really need to factory reset my cromecast with google tv, so I will be doing a fresh setup on mine as soon as I grabe the latest update. the latest update is just over 700 meg. holy hel!
@evilcookies98@krishnajariwala yes I leave the long spots in where the device in question is setting up, so people can see how long things should take as an average, or maybe they can even follow along and set theres up at the same time.
@jamminjerry@krishnajariwala I like that. I generally don’t do much editing either. I actually had a listener yell at me one time because they heard me sneezing and thought I should’ve edited that out.
@jamminjerry@krishnajariwala my response was something along the lines of it’s allergy season, what did you expect? If I try to edit out every little background noise, I would do nothing else for the rest of my life.
@evilcookies98@krishnajariwala if I am doing a podcast where I am not installing something, and people need to hear how long it takes, things like coughing, and sneezing I might edit out, but if it is one, like this one where I was doing a setup of the device, then no I am not going to edit that stuff out, because then the time it takes to do something is off, and could potentually throw off people. wait yours only took a minute, and mine is still doing it after three minutes.
@krishnajariwala@jamminjerry when my allergies, get really nasty, there’s no point in editing, because then it would sound very robotic and unnatural, and I’m not going for that
@MariahL@evilcookies98@krishnajariwala@jamminjerry So learn to edit things so it doesn't sound robotic? It can be done if you want to take the time and have the skills and the energy. I have the skills, but as for energy, I usually don't, unless I'm going for a more professional sound. I'll usually edit sneezes and coughs out, and filler speech when I can, but usually, the way I feel about it is that I'm me, take me or leave me.
@jamminjerry@evilcookies98 How much editing I do on an audio project depends upon what I'm trying to achieve. I will do more editing on a podcast or audio presentation if I'm trying to go for professionalism but if I'm not there are things I'll let slide.
@MariahL@jamminjerry the way I see it, I’m just me, and there’s no amount of editing that can fix that, so why bother? If there’s a bunch of dead air, I’ll cut that out, but that’s about it.
@evilcookies98@jamminjerry I mean sure. I follow that rule mostly but if I'm trying to do something that's going to be heard by a more professional audience I'm going to polish things up because I have the skills to do so. Even with my more polished edits I try to keep things as natural as possible.
@evilcookies98@MariahL@jamminjerry yes, and also, there are times when you don't want to edit things, like installs etc if you want people to know how long something takes. I usually cut that out too, but I know people who don't.
@evilcookies98@jamminjerry If I hear myself using a lot of filler words, for example, I listen back and listen for what I can get rid of without the edits sounding forced. I will leave things like a breath or filler word if removal of said breath or filler makes things sound... rough or unnatural. Also completely cutting things out like that just makes it less human.
@evilcookies98@jamminjerry@MariahL I had that same problem, but editing and broadcasting will cure you of that very quickly, and it will become just another voice.
