Jasper (cat) paws at the cupboard door that has the cat food. Somewhere, I've shared a video of this before. It's kinda cute, until it gets annoying ,but he had fresh kibble and only got wet food because he ate the leftovers that (the late) Maya had. He misses her, and begged for the soft food, until he got it, and then didn't eat it but looked around to try and understand why Maya wasn't here. 😿
I know Teddy misses her too, but less intense. Jasper has known Maya for 8 years, Teddy, a year
@CamemberRatona That was how we got Jasper. Maya (who just passed away) was in grief when Buddy (Our 25 pound Maine Coon Cat) died. He had raised her from a few weeks old, she was a rescued feral kitten. Jasper was to be Buddy's replacement. Now we have two boys.
@TCMuffin He really is. I've been watching him closely. he's really missing her. I give him excessive love and help him through it. I can't afford to send him to a shrink, we'll have to work through this together :P
We usually have at least two dogs of different ages and we see the one left mourning every single time when the older dog dies 💔
Unless the dog isn’t woken after surgery (e.g. if the cancer has spread too much) we always have the vet to our house for euthanasia so the remaining dog can see and smell the body and hopefully will know that the older dog has died and won’t be around anymore 💔

The one cat that mourned the longest was my Sparky cat. He grew up with my lab/coonhound mix in our prior home and then the cathouse. She was outdoors until dinner time, then she came in to eat and stayed in for the night. He cuddled with her nightly. When she passed (unexpectedly) he looked for Cassie at dinner time for weeks. 😥
@jeanettepizzurro Maya was small enough to outwit the boys by going between the stereo and the wall and staying behind all the equipment. They keep looking in there, and when we had a drive today, they didn't know why she didn't come

It’s so sad.
The Dude didn’t really like Chaka ( Maya’s twin) so he didn’t grieve when she passed in April. She was a cathouse kitty for years until we brought her into the cabin in 2018.
@jeanettepizzurro They all pretend to hate each other, but you should see the boys huddle in the truck. With Maya, because she randomly pooped, each trip was an adventure. Less accidents with the boys, no kennel or litterbox, but Teddy did go into hiding. Mom's Birthday and a Doctor's appt, so we had to bring them
