Report: Tesla blamed drivers for failures of parts it long knew were defective.

Wheels falling off cars at speed. Suspension collapsing on brand-new vehicles. Axles breaking under acceleration. Tens of thousands of customers told Tesla about a host of part failures on low-mileage cars. The automaker sought to blame drivers for vehicle ‘abuse,’ but Tesla documents show it had tracked the chronic ‘flaws’ and ‘failures’ for years.

virginia_diamondd:
Pieces of junk. In order to get warranty repairs owners must sign an NDA. Tesla has been involved in a cover-up in plain sight

@skykiss Why - seriously - WHY would anyone buy a Tesla anytime from at least the last five years onwards? How brainfucked do you have to be?

nichni,

@skykiss How does NDSs rhyme with "free speech"!

MOyster,

@skykiss Elon doesn't care about the danger he puts people in. He's an industrialist. He was never interested in saving earth. He is solely out for himself. The man has over 10 children non of which I bet he would put in a s of driving Tesla. This particular business decision needs to be dealt with. Tesla cars have never done what Elon has told you. He sells the dream and hopes his engineers figure it out

Seems like Elon Musk and his cars are of a similar quality:

"Tesla owners have filed about 260 complaints with NHTSA over suspension and steering problems this year, compared to about 750 for General Motors and 230 for Toyota. That makes Tesla’s complaint rate far higher when considering the number of GM and Toyota vehicles on the road. GM has a 21% share of U.S. cars in operation; Toyota, 15%. Tesla’s share: less than 1%"

Yes, Tesla is a terrible company, but people should also expect problems from any newly engineered piece of technology. Cars are complex. Established car companies have evolved their products over many years, fixing engineering deficiencies and improving parts. It is not reasonable to assume a newly designed product will perform reliably over time even if the company is good. Moral, never buy a car from a new car company. Too many things can and will go wrong.

Kinda like new prescription drugs!

@bronakins @skykiss

Seeing what you did there... No, not like prescription drugs. Prescription drugs are entirely different. They go through entirely different development, testing and approval regimens. This is not a post about drugs and your off topic reply is not appreciated.

I deleted my comment since you objected. For the record it was sincere. There are instances when a drug went through the FDA procedures but once in general use it turned out to be dangerous (Celebrex). This has made me wary. When a doctor suggests prescribing a medication, I ask how long it has been in use. One time a doctor commented that I must be a nurse (I’m not).

Of course cars don’t even have to meet the pre-release safeguards that drugs do.

@bronakins @skykiss

Understood, and apologies if the reply was harsh. Perhaps just too sensitive to people changing the subject and moving threads off on different directions, and kind of thought you were making some anti-vax point. Completely agree that there are many issues with prescription medications that are subsequently found to have dangerous side effects. Just don't see this as directly analogous to mechanical systems.

@mastodonmigration This is terrible behavior from Tesla, and it is also very much in line with similar terrible behavior from Ford, Chevrolet, etc, etc, none of which does a good job standing behind their products when there are defects. I'm hoping enough people get mad about this that it has consequences for all car manufacturers.

@skykiss I did not understand why a Tesla-owning friend stayed with the brand after several failures and his car being shipped back to Tesla for many months for repair. It is the very description of stupidity. Consumer Hubris.

kurtsh,
@kurtsh@mastodon.social avatar

@RevLindsay @skykiss No one likes to admit they made a mistake. After making any level of investment - monetary, reputational or ego - many would rather put their lives in jeopardy than change their mind.

Some might say US presidential elections are Exhibit A of this phenomenon.

@kurtsh @RevLindsay @skykiss

This is particularly true when the terrible choice is all wrapped up with status and virtue signaling.

enoch,

@skykiss i seriously have no clue why anyone on earth would buy a Tesla. They are garbage 🗑 and really expensive garbage at that.

@skykiss

runs Tesla like he runs twit...
Into the ground and to hell with the customer.

And let's not forget his space program... Its a 1 way ticket to the moon if he can ever build something that doesn't kill everybody during launch.
