I think the enshittification of streaming services will be the main cause for piracy going mainstream again. Netflix mostly fixed a service problem but the whole industry seems obsessed in reversing it now https://9to5mac.com/2023/12/27/amazon-prime-video-ads-2/
@djlink I've personally always been against the whole streaming systems, but they're sure not helping me becoming a new user by dragging it into the ground like that! 😆
@djlink Yeah. I used to use subscription services for streaming, but a bunch of years ago everything I wanted to watch just became too fragmented and I can't afford to be on every subscription service.
It's such a silly problem, because I'm actually willing to pay. I subscribe to several twitch streamers just to support them.
If the service problem is fixed, I'm up for paying!
@Nifflas exactly, the prices increases alone aren't the issue, is that none of the services now solves the issue, so why pay, especially increasing prices to mostly stay the same
@djlink Yeah! I think their business people think they're trying to sell an attractive catalogue of shows.
But, as a person, I just want to see... say, What we do in the Shadows, Severance, Stranger Things, Andor, and a bunch more. Like, which streaming service am I supposed to get for that? All of them? X)

@Nifflas@djlink Subscribing to one service at a time works ok for us. Of course it doesn’t beat everything in one place, but monopolies have their own problems.
@runevision@djlink Yeah, which loops back to the price problem. I just don't currently have a way to see the things I want to see that I can also afford :(
@runevision@djlink Maybe rotating my subscriptions could work tho? I don't know why I didn't consider that. It's a bit of a hack but yeah, it's an option.
