Push #notifications now available for #Calckey#iOS users using the #PWA.
If you update to iOS 16.4 and "add to home screen", that version (called a PWA) will have full notifications and background/offline support!
For those with the PWA already added, you may need to go into Settings> Notifications> and enable push notifications.
@Dan@jo perhaps there is a server configuration needed? If I open the notifications settings in CalcKey, it says my browser doesn’t support notifications (and does not trigger a prompt to request permission).
This is Safari. I’ve just tried Chrome but it directs me to use Safari to create the web app! Creating the web app as it directs creates a shortcut but when you open notification settings it says not supported.
@Dan I had the PWA set up before this function & screen was available. See if you can add the PWA to home just within Safari rather than add from Calckey. Let me know if that works. @konstantin@thatonecalculator
@jo@Dan@konstantin@gwaihir@thatonecalculator It’s not working for me either. I don’t see the PWA in my app list at all, so that’s the problem. Tried with Calckey.social and blahaj.zone..great icon :ablobbonehype:
@box464 🤦♀️ I don't think this was properly tested tbh, and there's no documentation AFAIK. 🙄 Tbh, I didn't even know the apps section had been added to the OWA until I saw one of you screenshot it. And while the PWA allowed notifications in iOS settings fine, I didn't get any notifications until I went into the app section of the PWA and enabled push notifications. Since we're 0 for 5 here, I'm kind of disappointed that folks on iOS like myself who've done testing in the past weren't asked to jump back on the dev instance and check for something like this before it went public. 🤷♀️ Anyway it's nearly 3:30am here and I better try sleeping. Let me know if anyone works it out.
@jo@box464@Dan@konstantin@thatonecalculator Interestingly, I get with a trick one step further than many here and get the calckey PWA at least in the iOS notifications: in the calckey client settings, under "General" change the device type to "Smartphone" and save here leads directly to an iOS message whether I want to allow notifications for the app and the PWA then appears in the app list. Unfortunately, notifications then still do not work in the end for me. 🙄
@gwaihir@jo@box464@konstantin@thatonecalculator I have tried this but I don’t get any pop ups at all. To clarify, there is no ‘save’ button in this part of the settings. You just close out and it’s remembered.
I've now got an account at @jo and getting the same as you all. I think there's a setting that's not allowing push notifications on the instance, so I've asked my admins at blahaj.zone where it works fine to let me know what it might be.
So if @ admin@calckey.social, @atomicpoet, or @kainoa know what that setting is, I'd suggest they change it. Once it's working I'll finish up writing the #Calckey#iOS#PWA How To I'm putting together here.
Push notifications now work!! You'll need to delete the PWA and re-add it though. I'll post my guide later. It's my birthday today and I'm going to take some time off.
