Resident Son and I were discussing how different sorts of narrative - film, TV, novels - create engagement with characters. He pointed me towards a piece about doing that in computer games.

I found it very interesting and well worth a watch, whatever medium you're using to write your story.

@JulietEMcKenna As someone who writes for games, it's always nice to see when it all comes together like this. It's rare, sadly. The bigger the game, the more people who get in the way of the end product being any good. A mid-range title like Titanfall 2 oddly has a better chance: a team with passion and something to prove, and publisher execs who, for whatever reason, didn't interfere. The publisher was likely more focused on interfering with the Next Big Thing, leaving TF2 alone.
