The only thing that keeps Republicans up at night is their fear that government can be shown to work, which is why their every effort is devoted to trying to tear down and cripple working government programs, public education, decent healthcare, libraries, etc.
It's why Trump hopes the economy crashes. It's why the GOP won't actually vote for stronger border policies. It's why they defund the IRS.

@petergleick See "sadopopulism": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOjJtEkKMX4

"...you have no intention of even trying to implement any policy on behalf of the people. Instead, you deliberately make the suffering worse for your critical constituency..." and blame their suffering on your opponents.

@petergleick What I can't understand is why people vote for them to do nothing.

Well, for starters, several decades of dog-whistle politics that blame others for whatever perceived slights and failures theyve experienced instead of the actual reasons, the policies pursued by regressive-right politicians backed by their wealthy regressive-right donors.

There's not much that can be done without extensive trust building work to wake up MAGA cultists, but people who think of themselves as Republicans but are not in the cult can be moved our way with ...

the right approach.

An approach proven to work employs the Race Class Narrative framework. If your not familiar with it, please see the links in my pinned toots.

@petergleick really frustrates me how much this is working. One of my friends just straight up doesn’t get anymore that governments are supposed to make life better, and she’s far from the only one.

I don't know if it will help, but it can't hurt to use the messaging themes and framework you can find at the We Make the Future website - https://www.wemakethefutureaction.us/resources
