I think it should be obvious now that our international laws of war, like the Geneva Conventions, are only as good as our ability and willingness to enforce them.
I.e., not good at all right now.
Violators are still war criminals. Just unpunished ones.

Don't love the catch-22 where you try to get into your Microsoft access in Gmail but they send a security code to your email and you have to close the login page to open the email with the code and then can't get back to where you have to enter the code.

I love this. The last "big" New Jersey earthquake was in 1783, and George Washington slept through it.

To be honest, Washington was probably exhausted and had been celebrating the evacuation of Manhattan by the British just a few days prior and the reoccupation of NYC by the Americans!

How our standards have changed. Everyone is talking about how California's had a good year. In fact, we've had an "average" or slightly worse than average water year. The reservoirs are full, snowpack is almost exactly aveage and there won't be shortages, but we're now happy when all we get is "average."

Graphic showing northern Sierra mountain precipitation is just about average for April 1st.
Graphic of California snowpack showing statewide average is almost exactly 100% of expected April 1 value, no more or less.

The irony.
On World Water Day, the Russians attack the largest remaining dam in Ukraine, a clear and explicit violation of the 1977 Geneva Convention Protocols against attacking civilian infrastructure and dams.
And a reminder they most certainly destroyed the massive Kakhovka Dam last June.

Each March 22 since 1993, the world has marked . At the Pacific Institute, we are proud to approach each day like it’s World Water Day.

Here are our thoughts this year— a year dedicated to for peace.

It's .
Billions lack access to safe drinking water. Water conflicts are on the rise. Climate change is worsening extreme hydrologic events, including both floods and droughts. Groundwater used for food production is in shorter and shorter supply. It's time to refocus on the world's most precious resource — — and move to a more sustainable future. The solutions are out there. It's time to find them, fund them, and scale them up.

Saudi crown prince brags Jared Kushner handed him U.S. intelligence | Daily Mail Online

"The intelligence allegedly discussed during Kushner's visit to the Middle East last October was said to have came from U.S. wiretaps on conversations between Arab royals in hotels in London, in major U.S. cities and even on yachts docked close to Monte Carlo, a favorite playground of the super-rich.

A separate source told DailyMail.com that it was being said in the Gulf that the president's son-in-law took a copy of information from the daily intelligence briefing provided by the intelligence community to the White House, and shared its contents with MBS."

I don't think people understand how extremely unusual the huge rise in global surface and ocean temperatures were in 2023 (and now in 2024), how scientists are struggling to understand it, and the growing worry in the science community about what it means.
Here's a new article from one of the world's top climate scientists. Are we in "uncharted territory?"

"We need answers for why 2023 turned out to be the warmest year in possibly the past 100,000 years."

@redshiftdrift Here's a graphic showing climate model projections and actual observed data. As you can see the last year showed a staggering temperature increase, but it's still within the envelope of projected warning.
