I've been trying to use Tuba as my Mastodon client, to avoid a tab on my web browser, but I honestly can't get into the fact that I have to manually refresh the feed.

@ebassi Maybe you can work together with @GeopJr to improve that.

@ebassi I've been using it also the last month or so, and it definitely has some rough spots.

@brian honestly? It's better than most clients I've seen. There are a few failure conditions, but hopefully it'll get more contributions (or help).

I thought we solved the particular issue of refreshing the content of a UI build using data coming from a remote server a while ago…

@ebassi perhaps I misunderstand you, but on Tuba 0.6.2 (just released on flatpak), when I open the Home tab, new toots auto load without me having to do anything. I don't know if this helps, but I turned on in Preferences > Timelines > Stream Timelines to ON. This may or may not be what you're looking for, but autoloading new toots works for me.

@scottytrees it's already enabled; apparently there's some TLS issue with the server

@ebassi sorry it doesn't appear to be working for you, but it is working on my end just fine.

edit: this is on fedora 39 gnome workstation, btw

Incidentally: no, I will never work on my own client. I literally wrote a JSON parser[0], a Twitter client library[1], a toolkit[2], and a Twitter client[3], and that was as far as I would go, even for the Hellsite…

benpocalypse,

@ebassi I thought that Tuba had an option to "stream" your feed, no?

ebassi,
@ebassi@mastodon.social avatar

@benpocalypse it does, if it manages to complete the TLS handshake with the server—which apparently is not working reliably on mastodon.social, at the moment…

benpocalypse,
@benpocalypse@mastodon.social avatar

@ebassi I generally just use Tuba to start at the top of my feed and scroll down, but it looks like option is there in the settings to have it stream. I wonder if you're right and there is a bug with mastodon.social.
