Can (and should) I provide a door code for our front door for deliveries to our house when we’re not home? I’m sick of deliveries being put smack in the middle of the front step on a perfect pedestal for porch pirates…

I can set up a specific code for each delivery company and make it only work during certain hours/days when a delivery is expected, so the security implications aren’t too bad imho. My bigger question is: will delivery companies even bother with it?

Had knives in my throat (not Covid, probably… at least tests were/are negative) so went to see my new GP and we ended up chatting about the OneWheel I rode in on (he took up skating later on in life and tried one in France apparently), the shit factory that is Silicon Valley (he used to be a software dev there before he became a doctor), the Small Web (he digs the idea), and, yes even my sore throat (I’m on antibiotics now). Needless to say, I like my new GP :)

This took me an embarrassingly long time to get working. The transition from Gtk3 to Gtk4 has been a real learning curve for me. And this still isn't quite right. The HeaderBar isn't automatically showing the back button, I'm handling it manually.

The long game is paying off: more and more cross-platform apps are getting FreeDesktop dark style support for free. 💪

Recently I’ve noticed Signal and Slack both respect the Dark Style preference in GNOME, which should mean it works across elementary OS, KDE, and other FreeDesktop environments as well. This is thanks to having it standardized under FD.o and then getting it into Chromium, and thus Electron.

If we want more apps to “Just Work” on Linux, this is the sort of work we have to do!

There's a lot of hand-wringing going on now that the Supreme Court is taking up the Trump immunity case, and how this could delay the trial until after the election, which would render it moot if Trump won since he'd just have DOJ drop the case. And yes, DOJ should have brought the case years ago, waiting so long was inexcusable and a major part of the problem.

BUT. Some things to keep in mind. First, even if the trial had started on the original schedule, it could take months, even not taking into account other routine delays that could have occurred in the process. There was never any guarantee the trial even if started earlier would end before the election. And that doesn't even take into account appeals, that could be extremely lengthy and certainly would have gone past the election.

The bottom line is that I don't think a single vote would change based on the trial decision. I doubt a single vote would change even after appeals. I don't think whether or not Trump would be found guilty or not in this case matters to the election in any significant way.

Trump's base will love him all the more if he's found guilty. The people who dislike him will continue to do so irrespective of the trial.

And even independents, who will decide this presidential election as they always do, by and large know exactly who Trump is and what he has done. Make no mistake about it, new information isn't going to change anyone's views on Trump at this point.

All that matters is turnout and people not throwing away their votes on third-party candidates, with each such vote actually a vote for Trump.

That's the whole enchilada. The whole ballgame. Seriously.

    Oh man...if you use Slack (I know proprietary garbageware) and can't believe that Slack disabled it on Gnome Web on your , there is a saint out there that has made a flatpak version of their app that is built against aarch64. It's not pretty, but it works.
